Meet Our Ball Field Buddy 🐾

His story is a mystery, but his heart isn’t.

This sweet, intact male showed up at the ball fields and quickly made friends with the crew taking care of the grounds. He’s a little shy at first, but you can tell he wants to play and be your buddy—he just needs a little time to warm up.

Once he feels comfortable, his gentle, playful personality starts to come out. We think he’ll thrive with someone who’s willing to let him settle in at his own pace.

Do you recognize this handsome boy?

He was found hanging around the softball fields north of Lakin and has been nothing but sweet, calm, and friendly. We’d love to get him back home if someone is missing him.

If this is your dog, please call 620-355-7853 to arrange reclaim. A current rabies certificate or a prepaid receipt from a veterinarian for a rabies vaccination is required before he can be reclaimed.

If an owner is not located by July 31, he will become available for adoption. If you think he might be a good fit for your family, feel free to call and let us know you’re interested.

🎆 Fourth of July Pet Safety Reminder 🎆

The Fourth of July can be a stressful time for pets. Loud fireworks often cause even well-behaved pets to become frightened and run away. Make sure your pets have secure collars, current identification, and a safe place indoors during celebrations.

This is also a great time to make sure your pets are up to date on their required City Pet Tags. A current rabies vaccination is required before a city tag can be issued. Having a tag on your pet can help them get home faster if they become lost.

Remember this sweet girl from last week?

Unfortunately, no owner came forward to reclaim her, but we’re excited to share that she has officially been adopted and is settling into her new home! 🐾❤️

We love sharing happy endings like this one.

As a reminder, don’t ever be afraid to reach out if you see a dog posted that you may be interested in. Sometimes we don’t know a dog’s full story right away, but once the stray hold has ended and no owner has come forward, they may become available for adoption to the public.

Occasionally, you may not see a separate adoption post made. In some cases, an adopter or rescue has already expressed interest before the stray hold ends, allowing the dog to move on quickly once they become available.

Are you missing something? Maybe 18 something? Found in Lakin
Mom may have been seen taking off. We are fairly sure they are Wood Ducks.

With the advice from KWP, we are going to try and locate mom to get them back together.
If that does not work, we are hoping to find an adoptive mother. If you have or know of anyone (or place) that has wood ducks that have recently had babies, please reach out!
