Dogs Home Forever

Dogs Home Forever Our mission is to offer free or low cost training and behavioral help to rescues, shelters, fosters, and adopters of homeless animals. That's where we step in!

Dogs Home Forever realizes Colorado is blessed when it comes to animal rescues, shelters, adoptions, and the kindness and generosity of many selfless volunteers who transport animals, donate, organize events and fund raise. One area that there seems to be a gap, is in helping rescued animals acclimate to their new home and family. Animals that have been lost, rescued from abusive situations, fall

victim to family tragedies or financial hardships or placed in a shelter for behavioral reasons, are often adopted and not always equipped to deal with a new home, new family, new rules. And although Colorado has many wonderful and qualified trainers, not all rescues have the extra funding for training help, and not all families are prepared for the cost involved in training or behavioral problems. Dogs Home Forever offers free or low cost, training, behavioral consultations, seminars, or hands-on help to any dog or cat that is in, or has been, rescued or adopted. We will also offer financial assistance for those needing pet food or supplies, spay and neuter, or basic veterinary care. Our future goals include helping seniors and those with medical issues, who may not be able to care for an animal if injured, hospitalized, or even their own death. A dog or cat can be a 10, 15, or even 20 year commitment, and at a time when people may need comfort, companionship, and a reason to be needed the most, they fear what would happen to their pet in the event of an emergency. We also have great respect for all veterans and military personal, and realize that an emotional support animal or service dog can literally be a lifesaver and connection with the outside world. It is also our eventual goal to join and unite animals in need with people in need.

Recently, there was a request to take in over 40 dogs in Pueblo. Colorado dogs need your help!

Copied with permission from a post by Anne Rogers:

"It is perfectly acceptable, normal and ok for a pet owner to want a family dog, who is safe, fun and can be brought places without that requiring military standard operations and arrangements.

It is perfectly acceptable, normal and ok for a pet owner to not want to or need to become a dog trainer or behaviour expert. To just be a dog owner.

It is perfectly acceptable, normal and ok for pet owners to not want project dogs, who take over their lives, require complete changes to their lifestyle, and mean that, for the remainder of their dog's life, everything must be micro-managed because just one human mistake can mean serious compromises to safety and welfare.

Human welfare is important too, not least because that helps to ensure canine welfare too. We need both.

Dogs wouldn't choose this either.

It's not welfare if we are just keeping them alive under conditions that limit that dog's needs being met.

We're not rescuing them if their lives aren't getting better.

Picture of this beach boy because many years ago, an online/social media bullying campaign was instigated against me by, among others, "force-free" or whatever trainers (I have the screen shots, IPs and all sorts of info) because I decided to choose an impeccably produced, reared and cared for dog so that I could have a fun, safe, nutty companion who challenges me in all the right ways, whose needs I can meet pretty easily and whose welfare I can maintain without massive lifestyle overhauls for either of us.

Been there, done that, and will never do it again, and nor will the countless pet owners who didn't know how to make those choices, and are now stuck and overwhelmed with a dog they love but whose needs are so difficult, and sometimes, impossible, to meet.

I'm tired."
