Cat Care Society is a non-profit, limited-admission cat shelter founded in 1981 to improve the quality of life for cats in need in the Denver metro area. Our unique and free-roaming approach views all cats as worthy, regardless of their age or abilities. We are non-discriminatory in our love for cats and take in cats that may not have a chance anywhere else. This includes cats that have tested positive for FIV or FeLV, or have been diagnosed with chronic health conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease. We pride ourselves in finding these cats loving homes and educating cat owners on the care requirements for cats with special needs. We provide a temporary refuge for cats in need until an appropriate home can be found for each. Veterinary care, premium diet, and human interaction are lovingly provided by dedicated staff and volunteers. Approximately 800 cats come into our care each year! As we receive no government funding, Cat Care Society is supported by a number of loyal volunteers, donors, and partners, without whom we could not operate. Our staff and board of directors work together to ensure that every cat receives an enriching environment and the opportunity to find a home where they can flourish.

Happy National Veterinary Technician Week!

This week, we're celebrating the wonderful veterinary team who show up for our cats every day!

From assisting with surgeries and administering vaccines to comforting cats through recovery, our team brings so much care and compassion to make sure every cat gets the treatment they need. Their work isn't always easy, and much of it happens behind the scenes, but it makes a world of difference in each cat's journey towards a loving home. We're so lucky to have a team that cares so deeply about the cats who come through our doors.

Please join us in thanking our veterinary team for all the heart they put into caring for our cats. We couldn't do this work without them! 🐾❤️

We make sure our cats get the good stuff, including all the vaccines they need to stay healthy! The FVRCP vaccine can help protect cats from diseases like feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), calicivirus, and panleukopenia. Kittens get the FVRCP vaccine starting at 6-8 weeks of age, then boosters every 3-4 weeks until they are 16 weeks old!

Meet Astrid, a 5-year-old buff beauty who's ready to be your devoted companion! She is affectionate and loves to cuddle with kind humans. She would thrive best as your one and only cat in a home where she can get all the attention. Astrid does have some special medical needs that will require her to be on a special diet and to have a consultation with our veterinarian, and she will need an adopter who understands her history and can provide the right environment for her! This , we're featuring the lovely Venus!

Venus is a sweet, snuggly, 13-year-old companion. She makes herself right at home and is friends with anyone she meets. Venus’s hobbies include opening cabinet doors, basking in the sun, so much snuggling on your lap, and pushing her tiny ball toys under furniture. She loves her routines and will lead you to her nightly medication to take it like a good girl. Please be prepared for the unbearable cuteness of only half of her crooked tail fluffing up when she gets the occasional “kitty crazies” and runs around the house.

Venus tells us that the home she is looking for will be one where she can be playful and she will do great with any type of pet and will even be a great senior kitty for a gentle child or two. She will also need a willing adopter to be able to take on any of her medical needs as well and because of this, CCS staff will be happy to go over what her medical care will require.

We have an from Crystal who adopted Mango (now Grimm) in July 2026. They came to CCS looking for a black cat and they had their eye on Grimm before they arrived. Once they met him, they fell in love.

“He was so sweet and full of personality that we knew he was the perfect fit for our family. It really felt like the stars aligned and brought us together.

“Grimm has been doing wonderfully! He has a big brother, Alton, who is an 11-year-old domestic shorthair. The adjustment period took a little time, as expected, but they have become great companions. These days, they love sitting together and watching the world go by through the window, and they spend plenty of time wrestling and playing with each other. It's been amazing to see their bond grow.

“Everything has been going great. Grimm has adjusted very well to his routine and has had no issues with eating, drinking, or using his litter box. One funny thing we discovered is that he absolutely loves having ice in his water. It’s become a little quirk of his that makes us smile!

“He also really loves spring toys and toys with bells! He loves sleeping in our bed (usually on top of my head) and is always ready for a cuddle! We’re so grateful to have Grimm in our family, and we appreciate everything the shelter did to help us find him. He has been a wonderful addition to our home!”
