π 4th of July Pet Safety Tips from Red Rocks Animal Center π
As we gear up to celebrate Independence Day, we want to remind all our amazing clients to keep their furry friends safe and comfortable during the festivities. While fireworks and cookouts are fun for us, they can be scary β and even dangerous β for pets.
Here are a few important tips to keep in mind this holiday:
πΎ Keep Pets Indoors
Fireworks can cause extreme anxiety. Keep your pets in a quiet, secure space inside your home where they canβt escape or injure themselves.
π Create a Calm Environment
Play soft music or turn on the TV to help mask loud booms. Consider calming treats, pheromone diffusers, or vet-approved anxiety support options if your pet is particularly sensitive.
π« No Fireworks or Sparklers Around Pets
The noise, bright lights, and chemical residue from fireworks are not pet-friendly. Even unused fireworks can be toxic if ingested.
π Watch the Grill & Party Foods
Common BBQ foods β like bones, alcohol, chocolate, onions, and grapes β are dangerous for pets. Keep food, drinks, and trash out of reach.
π Double-Check Collars and Microchips
Make sure your petβs ID tags are up-to-date and their microchip is registered. If they get spooked and run, this will help you reunite faster.
π¨ Know When to Call Us
If your pet is showing signs of anxiety (excessive panting, drooling, hiding, pacing, or escape attempts) or ingests something dangerous, donβt wait β call us or the nearest emergency clinic.
Wishing you and your pets a safe and happy 4th of July! β€οΈππΆπ±
