🌿 **Dogs get seasonal allergies too!**

But unlike us, who often experience sneezing and watery eyes, dogs tend to show their allergies through their SKIN.

Think itchy paws, irritated ears, face rubbing, and recurring skin infections.

Environmental allergies, often referred to as atopic dermatitis, can be triggered by things like pollen, grasses, molds, and dust mites.

And while some dogs only struggle during certain seasons, others deal with itching year-round.

🍗 **Is your dog REALLY allergic to chicken?**

Food allergies are less common than many pet owners think, and figuring them out isn't quite as simple as switching to a different bag of food.

A proper food allergy workup usually involves a strict elimination diet trial, often for about 8 weeks.

That means no treats, no table scraps, and yes… no sneaking cheese when nobody's looking. 🧀😂

And here's another important point: blood, saliva, and hair tests aren't reliable methods for diagnosing food allergies in dogs.

🐾 **Not every itchy dog has allergies!**

Fleas, mites, bacterial infections, and yeast can all cause some pretty significant itching.

And here's something that surprises a lot of pet owners: you don't even have to SEE fleas for your dog to have a flea allergy!

That's why we don't want to jump straight to allergy medications without investigating what might actually be going on.

Sometimes a simple skin test under the microscope can tell us a whole lot.

When it comes to itchy dogs, we typically investigate three major categories: **parasites, food allergies, and environmental allergies.**

But here's the thing: itching is a symptom, not a diagnosis!

Before assuming it's allergies, we also need to check for things like bacterial and yeast infections that can make itching even worse.

The goal isn't just to stop the scratching. It's to figure out WHY it's happening so we can create a long-term plan to keep your dog comfortable.
