At SPCA Florida, shredded newspapers help us keep animal kennels warm, cozy, and clean for the pets in our care every single day. Your old papers become soft bedding, help with cleanup, and make a huge difference for homeless animals waiting for families.

WARNING: A dangerous outbreak of Panleukopenia (Panleuk) is affecting cats across Central Florida. This highly contagious and often deadly virus attacks a cat’s immune system and spreads quickly, especially among kittens and unvaccinated cats.

Common symptoms include:
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Diarrhea
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Fever
🐾 Extreme lethargy
🐾 Dehydration

Panleuk can survive in the environment for months and spreads through contact with infected cats, surfaces, bedding, food bowls, and even shoes or clothing.

The best protection is VACCINATION. Vaccinating your cats — even indoor cats — can save their lives and help stop the spread of this devastating disease. If your cat is not up to date, contact your veterinarian or reach out to SPCA Florida Veterinary Clinic as soon as possible.

Please help protect our community cats, shelter cats, and your own furry family members. 💙🐱

Your cat won’t send a calendar invite saying they’re in heat, but they definitely have ways of letting you know 🐱 Extra vocalizing, increased affection, rolling around, restlessness, and trying to escape are all common signs!

With kitten season in full swing, now is more important than ever to help prevent unexpected litters with our $35 Backyard Cat spay/neuter program (while funds last)! Traps required and it’s first come first serve with drop off being from 7am-7:30am Monday-Friday. 🐾

Our animals at SPCA Florida have been working overtime lately 🐾❤️ From boosting moods and lowering stress levels to providing endless laughs, cuddles, companionship, and unconditional love, our pets are dedicated to making humans happier every single day. And this week, several of them officially clocked in with new families of their own.

To everyone who adopted this week, thank you for giving our animals the second chance they deserve. Your new companion may spend their days asking for treats, stealing blankets, and following you from room to room—but they’ll also fill your life with joy in ways only a pet can.

We’re so grateful to every adopter who chooses to open their home and heart to a shelter animal. Thank you for believing in adoption and helping our pets continue their very important work: making life better for the humans who love them 🐶🐱✨

A big thank you to Tampa Bay 10 News for helping us spread the word about hurricane preparedness as we head into another Florida storm season. 🌪️🐾

We are especially grateful to SPCA Florida's Randa Richter and Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FL SARC) Program Manager Jeremy Hillengas for representing our organizations during the Impact Weather segment and sharing important tips to help keep pets and people safe before, during, and after a storm.

Hurricanes can affect communities across our state with little notice, making preparation essential. By encouraging families to create emergency plans, assemble disaster kits, and include their pets in those plans, we can help ensure no animal is left behind when severe weather strikes.

In observance of Memorial Day, SPCA Florida will be closed on Monday as we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

While our campus takes a brief break, our commitment to the animals in our care never stops. Our dedicated staff and caregivers will still be tending to the pets who call SPCA Florida home.

We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we reflect with gratitude on the freedoms we enjoy because of our heroes.
