Animal Control Officers are not sworn law enforcement officers and do not investigate animal cruelty cases. Suspected animal cruelty is investigated by law enforcement.
📞 To report suspected animal cruelty:

Contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at (863) 298-6200.

🚨 If it’s an emergency, call 911.

So, what does Animal Control do?
We provide care and housing for animals involved in cruelty investigations and help ensure they receive the care they need while the investigation takes place.

If you contact Animal Control with a concern, we’ll make sure your information reaches the appropriate agency.

Our local firefighters will be on-site sharing valuable information about:

📍 The Polk County Bully Project will be providing FREE microchips for community pets to help keep them safe and identifiable if they ever become lost.

For emergencies during that time, you will need to trailer your horses to Brandon Equine, The Equine Medical Center of Ocala or the of Florida at Gainesville. Any pig or goat issues will need to be taken to the University Of Florida.

Happy Independence Day!
Caesar Rodney rode by horseback from Delaware to Philadelphia to cast his vote and break the tie which declared the 13 Colonies as independent from Great Britain on July 2, 1776. After two days of edits the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4th, 1776. The ride was 80 miles and took 18 hours or so though rain and thunderstorms. Records aren't clear but it is thought that Caesar changed mounts 2 or 3 times. What a ride that must have been!
