Who remembers Lily 🌸?

She is Zanny’s very first foal (Resi’s full sister)!

It’s so hard to believe how grown up she is now. Watching her and Kayla Meyer together has been such a blessing. They are truly becoming superstars as a team and making their way into the big barrel pen!

A couple weekends ago Lily went to her second ever big girl barrel race and placed 2nd in the 1D 🤩
We could not be more proud of this amazing mare and all she’s accomplishing already.

I truly could not have asked for a better partner for Lily to go through life with, and I’m so thankful Kayla continually keeps me updated on her. It means the world getting to watch her succeed and be so loved.

Zanny and Whiskey Shiner really did something special with this one šŸ’•

The Great Debate — Culturing Your Mare Before Breeding

Let’s talk about something that always sparks conversation in the breeding world… To culture or not to culture before breeding?

Some swear by it. Others feel it’s unnecessary unless there’s a problem. So what’s the right answer?

Here’s the truth:Every mare is different, but a uterine culture can be one of the most valuable tools we have.

A culture helps identify:
• Hidden infections that can prevent conception
• Bacteria that may cause early embryonic loss
• Issues that aren’t visible on ultrasound alone

The reality is, not all mares will show you there’s a problem… until they don’t settle.

Breeding without a culture can work—especially in young, healthy mares with clean histories. But when you’re investing time, money, and effort into a breeding, having that extra information can save you a lot in the long run.

My personal stance: To me, culturing is a necessity and the way to a successful breeding. If your mare isn’t healthy, then a pregnancy cannot happen—regardless of how healthy the stallion is.

It’s not about doing more just to do more. It’s about being intentional, informed, and setting both mare and stallion up for success.

At the end of the day, good horsemanship is about stacking the odds in your favor.

What are your thoughts? Do you culture every mare, or only when there’s an issue?

šŸ“£ As I spend countless hours talking with friends about stallions and searching for the right crosses for the upcoming breeding season, I keep running into the same issue—stallions without proper conformation photos. If there are photos, they’re often front-facing or taken at an angle, which makes it difficult to truly evaluate the horse.

I always try to give the benefit of the doubt and will reach out to owners asking for side-profile conformation shots. Some respond, some send very old photos, and some don’t respond at all. When that happens, I unfortunately have to cross that stallion off my list.

This isn’t coming from a place of criticism or meanness. It genuinely makes me sad to eliminate stallions I’m excited about simply because I can’t determine whether their conformation complements my mares 🐓

Honestly, I don’t care if the photos or videos are taken on a phone. I can look past dirt, winter fluff, and imperfect conditions ā„ļøšŸ“± What matters is being able to see the horse as he is today.

Please don’t unintentionally sell yourselves short. Having current, clear conformation shots readily available helps breeders make confident decisions—and keeps great stallions from being overlooked šŸ™Œ

🫵Are you planning to breed your mare this season?
Here’s your friendly reminder to…
A) Track your mares cycle 🄚
B ) Plan for a culture and ultrasound pre-breeding and what may come with It.
C) Review your stallion of choice’s breeding contract again so there are no surprises 😲
D) ā“ASK QUESTIONSā“ - breeding can be complicated so there Is no such thing as a dumb question. I will gladly answer whatever I can and If I do not have an answer then I know people who are a text away that do. ASK QUESTIONS PLEASE! We want to help you!

šŸ’¦I like to do my culture and ultrasound on the same cycle as breeding, but some will ask you to have a culture done within 30 days prior to breeding.

ā˜¹ļøI am loathing making this ad for him because he is THAT nice and I selfishly want to keep him for myself; but unless Jesus is going to come down and help me show three - two year olds and two aged horses this year, I can’t justify keeping him (and I’ve really tried to). He is the sweetest and most willing horse and is so easy to handle. He does not have a mean bone in his body. He so badly wants a human best friend and would give 110% for them. His lope is so smooth and jog so balanced (from watching him in the round pen)that he will be a smooth ride. His stop is already very natural and beautiful (from the ground) and he will likely have natural spins as well (both parents do and siblings). All of his full siblings are extremely atheletic and are doing really well in the show pen. Some have even shown successfully in multiple different disciplines that you wouldn’t expect out of his pedigree.
He currently is scheduled to be gelded on March 11th so if you want him intact you will need to make a decision soon.
He stands for the vet (She says he is the cutest and sweetest) and farrier. Loads on and off the trailer, ponies down the road and on the trails quietly, and has been exposed to A LOT of different things (mini bikes, quads, ducks, chickens, emus (you read that right. He’s shared a pasture with an emu), heavy farm equipment and is generally unphased by it all. He will need more time standing tied, not because he’s naughty, simply because I haven’t tied him much. He is a VERY easy keeper and will maintain just off from hay and free choice loose minerals. I had to pull him off grain this winter due to him getting too chunky. Oh, and he LOVES kids and thinks they are the coolest.
Papers in hand and signed transfer. Plenty of references as well.
Located in Lake Odessa, MI
Asking 6ļøāƒ£šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘ŒšŸ‘Œ but am willing to negotiate to the right home. Also may consider trades for a nice broodmare or non-eating (breeding equipment, etc) things.

DOC BAR We didn't want to flood the market. So we bred our own mares and just a few select outside mares." Doc Bar's foals didn't flood the mar ket; they dominated it. The first to demonstrate Doc Bar's ability as a sire was Fizzabar. Foaled in 1961 out of Teresa Tivio, Fizzabar, with Don Dodge in the saddle, became the 1968 National Cutting Horse Association world champion mare. She would finish several times in the top 10, and was inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame. Then came Doc O'Lena and Dry Doc. Both were sons of the star crossed Poco Lena, and both became instant legends in the cutting pen. Doc O'Lena swept the 1970 NCHA Futurity with Shorty Freeman aboard, while Dry Doc took the 1971 Futurity, guided by Buster Welch. The NCHA Futurity became a proving ground, of sorts, for the family of Doc Bar. In 1973, Doc's Marmoset took the futurity, followed by Doc's Yuba Lea in 1974. Lenaette, a Doc O'Lena daughter, took the crown in 1975. Through the years 1978-80, grand-get of Doc Bar would again take the futurity, with Lynx Melody, Doc's Diablo and Mis Royal Mahogany. Then, in 1982, Smart Little Lena, by Doc O'Lena, took the futurity, and eventually, NCHA's triple crown. The next three years would also see descendants of Doc Bar win the futurity, with Doc's Okie Quixote, Doc Per and The Gemnist, respectively, winning top honors. In 1987 and 1988, the get of Doc Bar's grandson, Smart Little Lena, would win the futurity: Smart Date in '87, and Smart Little Senor in '88. Doc Bar's get, grand-get and great grand-get have also been well represented in the NCHA world championship standings. The first was Doc N W***y in 1980, followed by Doc's Marmoset in 1981. Tenino San, a grandson of Doc Bar won the world in 1982, followed by Doc Bar's son Handle Bar Doc in 1983. Grand-get Jazzote and Docs Sangria won the NCHA world championships in '86 and '87.
