We have been so excited to share this update with you all! Just over two years ago, we took this sweet girl in. Coming to us, morbidly obese, fat blind, almost unable to walk and almost did not survive the transport to the sanctuary from stress. There are so many important reasons for this post. Advocacy for an animals health, proper care & exercise. Weight loss in a safe and productive manner, but mostly to educate people on possible hidden health issues. In the beginning of June, we scheduled Poppy’s spay after consultation with her doctor. We all agreed that she was finally at a safe weight for the surgery. However, before Dr. Koch sedated Poppy he caught something very important. Her heart rate was only at 40 while resting and 48 after he got her up moving. He then did bloodwork to discover a thyroid deficiency and put her on some pretty important daily medicine that accelerated her weight loss and gave her the energy of a piglet! Fast forward…look at her now! Her hourglass girlish figure catches everyone’s eye! We are so proud of this girl! We are moving forward with her spay towards the end of the fall when we don’t have to worry about the heat, mud and flies! Our goal is to hopefully integrate her with the Backyardigans once she is fully recovered, can hold her own and not take any s**t from the playground bullies! She loves her yard mates, her feathered friends and Oreo, but we would like for her to have her own pig family if she chooses. Please like comment and share her story! Hosted by Cardinal Points Construction, this annual event brings together a full day of co****le, rescued residents, food, music, community, and fun.
All to help support the animals who call Farm To ABLE home. ❤️

Still Millie-from -the- block! This girl ran the streets for weeks before she came to the sanctuary at just 6 months old. We took one look at this girl and like no other she spoke to us through just a photograph. We knew we were hers!! 🥰 She is a s**t starter and a sassy pants! Still alittle leery of people she doesn’t know well even at 10 years old. Millie is what we call an Insider. She has lived in the main house with the humans since day one and has done significant remodeling of every single hollow door in the house ! 🫣
Millie is Charlie’s sister from another mister & mother. They are inseparable however still bicker at each other like siblings but always cuddle at night. Isn’t she lovely?!?! Our pretty pretty Millie♥️ ❤️

Just a little flashback from 2019! Our second time visiting after they agreed to take in our dearest most handsome Truman! Truman was actually found not but a block away from our location. It was one of the hardest things that we have gone through, to relocate him for his own safety. Kris was going through the loss of a dear loved one but still agreed to take Truman at just weeks old after his 5 day stray hold, proper vetting and health cert.
Truman was posted all over in our local community pages and even though he was not “claimed“ within the five day required hold we were still very anxious that someone still might try to come forward and take him from us. We don’t believe Truman was a truck jumper. We think he just simply escaped his paddock from a local(nearby) hog farm because he did not have a scratch on him! He definitely did not resemble the condition in which most piglets who escape their, transport to death, by jumping off of a moving semi truck in the middle of an interstate. Truman will always hold a very special place in our hearts! We miss him deeply every day, but we know that he is living an amazing life, even if it is in Kansas.🤣JK!

After visiting and then volunteering several times at Shy 38 it became a pivotal time in our cofounder’s life. It was then she clearly realized the very critical need for a Missouri farm animal sanctuary. So here we are! January 25th will be our 5 year anniversary and is it bad to admit it feels like our 15th??

so often we hear “you are living my dream“ we often respond with “so you want to have your heartbroken every day??“

Look there are still bright lights throughout our years, but there are such darks days and far too many. Even looking back through these photos, we know how deeply Kris misses Gertie and how some day too soon the other precious souls, including Rose and Truman.

Please think of us when you are sending out prayers and positive energy. Our hearts break every day for not only the ones we said, yes too but very deeply, the ones we have had to say no to.
Also understand, this is no dream.
