My dad and his best friend, the fuzzy little void, Bitty šŸ–¤ this is a picture from a few weeks ago after the got home from a weeks long visit to see us in Florida!

How CUTE are they?! Bitty was a little tiny kitten living across the street at an old house in my neighborhood. What started out as just being fed across the street, turned in to being fed at my parents house, to having a whole outdoor set up, to becoming the queen of the house.

Bitty simply loves my dad (of course my mom too). She showed up though right around when my dad retired a few years ago and the rest is history.

Two little peas in a pod 🐱

Would anyone be interested in participating in a Purrfect Pitters 5k fundraiser?

It would be in person and virtual so people from all over could join. It would also be a run or walk, whichever people would prefer to do!

I want to see who would be interested that way I’ll know to keep brainstorming and actually start planning!

So if you would be interested in participating, please let me know 🐱

Banana and Moosa had their wellness exams last week. Both of them got their complete workups. Moosa will be 11 in June, and her results were great, no concerns. Banana, my little 7 year old, on the other had a different outcome. For some context, those that don't know, Banana is a stressy boy who has stress cystitis flares and has a history of UTIs. He's been on a special diet for years. Since last October he has had flares and UTIs on and off that have been treated, most recently being February/March. He had blood work and a urinalysis done, and his blood work was good, and his UTI had cleared.

When his blood work came back last week, he was diagnosed with early kidney disease. His kidney values a few months ago were in the normal range, but they were high normal, so it wasn't really a concern at the time. His kidney values are now officially high, but it's still considered early. His urine was good, which means his kidneys are still working, which is great. There is no cure for kidney disease; it's mainly supportive care. His UTI's make it difficult because it's hard to alter his diet because of the urinary issues and his anxiety medication is not the best for the kidneys either. Because it is early, the vet has recommended a few things...

We keep him on the urinary diet for now and mainly wet food with water added (thank goodness he is already a great water drinker) to ensure he is hydrated. We decreased his anxiety med to every other day. We added in Aminavast, a kidney support supplement. And we will be repeating his blood work in one month to see where his values are at.

Overall, he has not been symptomatic other than losing weight rapidly. He was 21 pounds in September, and he is now 15.5 pounds. That has been a concern of mine for months, but his blood work hadn't shown anything until now.

I am having a hard time with this diagnosis, which I will make a separate post about that, because I think it is important to share and I really don't want to ramble on too much in one post. It's a lot. I just wanted to update everyone and also see if anyone has had a pitter with kidney disease. Andrea, our co-founder, is very familiar with it and has been a great support so far 🐱

Alumni update!

šŸ’«CosmošŸ’«
Cosmo was rescued back in 2021 as a medical case. He was at risk of being euthanized due to having an almost life threatening urinary blockage. Purrfect Pitters took him in and he became our 2nd rescue pitter! He was adopted a few months later by his wonderful, to say the least, family and sibling pitter sister, Danika! Cosmos dad wrote a precious little poem for us to share about Cosmo…

ā€œHe came to us in December, that day we’ll always remember.
That little face with those unsure eyes, for us we felt we won a great prize.
Soon we were acting like roomies, We’d play and he’d do his zoomies.
Cosmo’s become a part of our heart, But we knew that would happen right from the start.
You think you know what love means, I would tell you NO!
You need to look in the dictionary you’d see a picture of COSMO!ā€

It’s safe to say Cosmo is living his very best life and we are so happy to have been little chapter in his story! šŸ’œ

It’s National Banana Day! šŸŒ

What better way to celebrate than with the cutest Nanny boy we know! Just listen to that purr. He has by far the loudest purr and meow that o have ever heard. I love this little banana so much - even though he’s just a little bit rotten ā˜ŗļø

Oh Banana boy šŸŒ

He gave me quite a scare this week.

Nanny has always been a really anxious cat. He tends to p*e outside the box sometimes and he barbers his own fur, which leaves his legs and tummy basically bald. He also has always had quite an appetite.

He has a history of UTIs and stress cystitis. It really doesn’t take much to stress Nanny out. He had 3 UTIs last year. He’s already on Urinary SO wet and dry food, he has been for years because of Doc. However, he gets normal treats. I tried anxiety meds for him this past fall, but I didn’t give it much time to settle in because I didn’t like how he was acting. He was so lethargic and not himself.

Thursday I panicked. I put his symptoms together that I thought were his ā€œnormalā€ behaviors - p*eing outside the box (which this past week has been more frequent), barbering his fur, voracious appetite and then I put him on the scale and he’d lost about 3 pounds. I immediately thought diabetes.

I was so stressed and felt awful, like I had missed something major. I took him to work with me at the urgent care. We ran full blood work and a urine panel. Thank GOODNESS he is not diabetic. While I didn’t want him to have anything, I am glad it is just a UTI.

We put him on antibiotics and pain meds. So that should take care of his UTI! We also discussed changing his diet to Urinary SO + calm and keeping him on a strict diet. That means mom is gonna have to get creative with treats! We are also going to try him on a different anxiety med, Fluoxetine, because that should really help reduce his anxiety and hopefully reduce the amount of UTIs.

We will recheck his urine after his 7 day course of antibiotics! I’m so thankful that Nanny is not diabetic. Hopefully we have a plan to get him feeling better and less anxious 🐱

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! 🄰

On a day that’s so full of love, we thought it would be great to share an update on another Purrfect Pitters alumni!

Everyone remember our sweet senior girl, Tucson? We rescued her from a high risk shelter in NYC back in 2021. She was returned several times to the shelter and was at risk of euthanasia. We saw her and immediately knew we could take her in - so she became our 2nd Pitter! The last picture is the first one we shared of her with our followers. The picture of her in her sunflower halloween costume shows off her beautiful eyes, which we are all captivated by because they are a beautiful blue and slightly crossed.

We had her with us for about 2 years until her new family found her and adopted her. The rest is history because she has been living her best life with them and we could not be any more happy. The first are a few recent pictures of Tucson that her mom sent us to share! Her mom wanted us to share that ā€œshe is the queen of the house and simply loves life on the couch being all snuggled up especially in the cold NY weather. She even has her own favorite little crocheted blankieā€.

Tucson was a special little lady and we are so happy to have been a chapter in her story to her forever family! šŸ’œ

šŸ–¤ Marty Monday šŸ–¤

You read that right! We’ve got a Marty update for everyone. This is what his dads had to say…

ā€œMarty is doing amazing! He’s such a vocal little fella. When he wants your attention or is looking for you, he’ll meow twice, but the third one sounds like ā€œheeelllooooā€.

He’s also discovered that he like sitting on the couch next to us, and meows in my ear for morning cuddles and head pets. When either of us walks past his kitty pineapple, he comes out to do a big stretch and then flops over for belly rubs and kissesā€

I cried while reading this and looking at his photos! Marty looks absolutely amazing and he is so clearly loved by his dads. He is even getting ready to do some traveling around North America!

This is why we do what we do. Purrfect Pitters is here for cats just like Marty, who may be special needs, but are just as deserving of a loving home.

Just the update we all truly needed 🐱

Green Bean update!

Please don’t be alarmed that it’s a video. I figured a video would be much easier. Watch all the way through for a full update and let me know what you all think about making a Find Green Bean page.
