Who doesn’t love a mini? How about three minis!! This month OC Equine is happy to shine a BIG spotlight on Katy, Willow and Balthazar for our Patient Spotlight Series for the month of May. This adorable trio is owned by the Anneliese School located in Laguna Beach, CA where they are doted on by students, staff and teachers.
Starting with the queen, Katy, who is just shy of 31 years old, is the matriarch of the campus. This mighty paint miniature horse, with a mean back left kick, is described to be “strong, stubborn and going to outlive us all.” For the past several years Katy has been expertly managed by her care team, OC Equine, and board certified ophthalmologist Dr. Dubin from Eye Care for Animals for a severe case of glaucoma and chronic corneal disease.
Next up, is the handsome and very charming Willow. Nicknamed “Fabio”, because of his fabulous blond locks and handsome good looks. Willow is a 21-year-old chestnut who loves to get your attention by pawing on the ground with his hoof in hopes of you feeding him his favorite treat of carrots, apples and grape leaves. Earlier this year, Willow suffered a minor colic episode yet recovered nicely due to Dr Botello’s speedy assessment and emergency care. Willow was soon back to daily turn outs and charming the Anneliese staff.
Finally, the BIG guy, Balthazar. Known for his cool guy demeanor and laid-back attitude, this 15-year-old paint is the baby of the herd. According to the school, Balthazar, “struts his stuff across the campus walking on his own timeline as if he intends to be fashionably late.” This Mama’s Boy will do just about anything for carrots, apples, and grape leaves.
Thank you to The Anneliese Schools for trusting OC Equine to care for your beloved minis. We love being part of their herd!
