Meet my new friend and student — Archy, an 11-week-old King Shepherd who already weighs 22 lbs.

Yes, I’m smitten.

The King Shepherd is a large, powerful hybrid breed developed in the United States in the 1990s, crossing German Shepherds with Shiloh Shepherds, Alaskan Malamutes, and occasionally Great Pyrenees.
Today was our first lesson together.

Say hello to Archy — my new favorite client. This King Shepherd pup is only 11 weeks old and already tipping the scale at 20 lbs. I am completely smitten with this breed and counting down the days until our first lesson together.

This large, American-developed breed is primarily a cross between German Shepherds and Shiloh Shepherds, with roots tracing back to 1990s breeders Shelley Watts-Cross and David Turkheimer (some lines also carry Great Pyrenees or Alaskan Malamute influence).

Fully grown, males can reach 27-31 inches at the shoulder and 110-150 lbs, with females close behind at 25-27 inches and 90-110 lbs.
Watching a puppy this size grow into a gentle giant is exactly why I love this job. Stay tuned for training updates as Archy and I get to work.
