The Blue Bell Foundation for Cats is a non-profit organization that manages a cage-free sanctuary for senior cats whose owners have died or who can no longer care for them. Blue Bell started as a boarding facility for cats in the early 1960s and today provides loving lifetime care for its feline residents, and peace of mind to those who entrust their cats to Blue Bell. The cats have free rein thro

ughout their cozy cage-free home, which offers cushy bedding, cat trees, and climbing and perching areas. Spacious enclosed catios complete with fountains, playhouses and climbers, provide the Blue Bell kitties with plenty of fresh air, outdoor scenery, bird watching and lounging. Blue Bell includes a separate “special needs” facility for cats with medical or behavioral issues, and is where new resident cats initially acclimate to their new home. The cats interact daily with volunteers and staff who provide lots of love, affection and playtime. Veterinary care is provided by Canyon Animal Hospital located within minutes of Blue Bell.

It's Welcome Wednesday!

Today, we're so happy to welcome 14-year-old siblings, Sadie and Rascal to the Blue Bell family! 💗

They arrived on Sunday, July 12 after their beloved owner who had cared for them since they were three weeks old (along with their brother, Shadow, RIP 2022), had been placed in a memory care facility.

🐢 Sadie is the tiniest little tortie and a very sweet, shy girl who has been coming out of her shell more and more every day. She loves curling up in a fluffy bed in the sunshine on the catio, no matter how hot it is outside! Sadie isn’t a lap cat and isn’t particularly fond of having her back touched, but once she trusts you, she loves having the inside of her ears rubbed. And when she’s happy, she lets loose with the loudest, sweetest purrs. We also recently discovered that she LOVES playing hide-and-seek with wand toys.

🤵‍♂️ Rascal is a big black and white tuxedo and is quite the character. He's a chatty boy with a voice that sounds a little like a duck, and will follow you around with his funny little walk that reminds us of a raccoon. He loves catnip, drinking from the cat fountain, and spending time outside at night on the enclosed patio. And he certainly lives up to his name! Rascal has a talent for spilling water, sticking the sides of his face under the fountain, and burrowing under blankets. In other words, he keeps us laughing!

These two have been through a lot. As their owner’s health declined, there were many different healthcare workers coming in and out of their home, and, according to their owner’s sister, some of them may not have been particularly fond of cats. Sadie and Rascal became so frightened that they would hide in closets and were rarely seen. So, we have been absolutely delighted by how well they’ve settled in with us.

🏡 For the past few weeks, we’ve been letting them explore outside their enclosure at night, when things are quiet. They’ve taken to it beautifully—and even better, they get along with all of the other cats! They’ve been doing so well that we’ve now given them full-time access to the community.

Watching these two senior kitties go from frightened and hiding to confidently exploring their new home has been incredibly rewarding. They’re finding their way, making friends (feline and human), and showing us more of their wonderful personalities every day. We couldn’t be happier for them. We’re so excited to have these two sweet personalities as part of the Blue Bell family, and we can’t wait for you to get to know them and follow along on all their adventures!

Welcome home, Sadie and Rascal! We love you already. 🥹

When Treasure first arrived at our sanctuary alongside his brother Star, he spent his days tucked away in the quietest corners until he felt safe.

We’re so proud of the progress this sweet kitty has made! He’s built bonds with several volunteers and staff members and now feels comfortable enough to let his true personality shine. He’s truly our Treasure! ✨🪎

What quirks did your cat reveal once they settled in? Treasure showed us he enjoys this unique style of brushing that vibrates all his brain cells. 🫨

Is it life imitating art, or art imitating life?

Volunteer Ken wore his black cat shirt to Blue Bell, and Kalista definitely thought it was her. 👑

The real question is, who wore it better: Kalista 🐈‍⬛ or 🙋‍♂️ Ken?

Bleys does great for his blood pressure checks…as long as you bribe him with a Churu. 😹

It’s all part of our philosophy of care: addressing the physical, emotional, and behavioral needs of every resident with compassion, expertise, and respect.

Our guiding question is always, “What would I want if this were my cat?” 🩵

Treats during blood pressure checks are just one of the ways we put that into practice every single day.
