The Blue Bell Foundation for Cats Blue Bell cats reside in a vintage cottage, which has been converted to a fully licensed facility, located in rustic Laguna Canyon.

The Blue Bell Foundation for Cats is a non-profit organization that manages a cage-free sanctuary for senior cats whose owners have died or who can no longer care for them. Blue Bell started as a boarding facility for cats in the early 1960s and today provides loving lifetime care for its feline residents, and peace of mind to those who entrust their cats to Blue Bell. The cats have free rein throughout their cozy cage-free home, which offers cushy bedding, cat trees, and climbing and perching areas. Spacious enclosed catios complete with fountains, playhouses and climbers, provide the Blue Bell kitties with plenty of fresh air, outdoor scenery, bird watching and lounging. Blue Bell includes a separate “special needs” facility for cats with medical or behavioral issues, and is where new resident cats initially acclimate to their new home. The cats interact daily with volunteers and staff who provide lots of love, affection and playtime. Veterinary care is provided by Canyon Animal Hospital located within minutes of Blue Bell.

It’s Welcome Wednesday at Blue Bell! Say hi to one of our newest residents, Sammy, a handsome 13-year-old gentleman. He arrived at our senior cat sanctuary on September 12th, and he’s already been showing us what a loving and special kitty he is. ☺️

Sammy came to Blue Bell after his primary person, the younger daughter in his family, moved to London. With her departure, Sammy found himself feeling a little lonely and struggling to get along with the dog in the home. Knowing how much Sammy loves attention and companionship, his family wanted to find him a place where he could receive plenty of love and affection. We’re so glad they chose Blue Bell for his next chapter! 🏡

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Sammy, it’s that this boy has LOTS of love to give! This sweet kitty is very affectionate, loves to be around people, enjoys some quality brushing time, and never turns down a yummy treat. And did we mention he loves belly rubs?! Yes, this handsome boy is happy to enjoy some extra affection and settles right into laps for quality cuddle time. Sammy knows how to appreciate the good things in life. 🩵

He recently started venturing out to explore his surroundings and meet the other residents. We’re so proud of him for taking these steps! Every cat adjusts at their own pace, and we’re giving Sammy all the time, patience, and encouragement he needs to feel secure in his new forever home.

At Blue Bell, we believe that senior cats deserve comfort, companionship, and the opportunity to enjoy life surrounded by love. Sammy is already reminding us how rewarding it is to help a cat find their confidence and truly flourish in their golden years. We look forward to watching his personality continue to shine as he becomes more at home with us. 🥰

We caught up with Dr. Meredith Jones, DVM, of Zoetis at CatCon this past weekend, after an eye-opening workshop on feline osteoarthritis.

At Blue Bell, we take a whole-cat approach with veterinarian-guided supplements and medications—including oral and injectable options—to help manage pain and inflammation. Weight-management plans, stairs, ramps, elevated bowls, and low-sided litter boxes also help our senior kitties move more easily and enjoy their golden years. 💙🐾

It’s Welcome Wednesday! Meet our new resident, Chewie, a handsome 17-year-old kitty. 💗

Chewie arrived at our senior cat sanctuary on September 5, 2026, after his beloved owner experienced a decline in her health and could no longer care for him. While this was a big and unexpected change for Chewie, he is taking things one day at a time and showing us more and more of his wonderful personality along the way. Change can be difficult, especially for a senior kitty, but Chewie is proving to everyone just how sweet and resilient he is.

Chewie is a curious, gentle, and friendly kitty who enjoys exploring his surroundings and keeping an eye on everything happening. He likes to know what’s going on in his little corner of the world! When he’s ready to take a break from all his important investigating, you can often find him burrowed underneath his blanket, enjoying a cozy and well-deserved nap. After all, being this adorable is hard work. ☺️

While Chewie isn’t particularly interested in most toys, he has a definite favorite: his beloved octopus! It’s always sweet to discover the little things that bring each cat joy, and we love seeing Chewie with his special aquatic companion. 🐙

Since arriving at Blue Bell, Chewie has made wonderful progress settling into his new surroundings. He is adjusting well to the other cats and seems to enjoy being part of the community. He especially loves spending time in his catio, where he can relax, soak up the fresh air, and watch the birds fluttering around the garden. We imagine there’s never a dull moment when you have a front-row seat to all that nature has to offer.

While Chewie enjoys his independence and exploring at his own pace, he also appreciates the company of our wonderful staff and volunteers. He’s happy to spend time with his human friends and may even curl up in your lap for some extra snuggles.

Welcome to the Blue Bell family, Chewie! We’re so happy he found his forever home with us, surrounded by people who adore him. May your days be filled with cozy blankets, garden birdwatching, your favorite octopus toy, warm laps, and all the love you deserve! 🥰
