🐾 Day 22 of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month - Meet Willis!

Willis is a 5.5 year old, 56 lb mixed breed, full of love and hugs to share. We originally met Willis in 2021, when he came to Almost Home as a stray. Even then, he was a happy, friendly boy! He recently found his way back to us when the other dog in the home no longer wanted to share space with Willis. During his intake exam, he tested positive for heartworms, which began this boy's long journey here.

FINALLY, Willis has completed his treatment, is off leash-walk restrictions, and is eager to head home forever. Willis has lived with teens, cats, and dogs and has done great with all of them. He's trustworthy in a home uncrated, but will steal food if given the chance (best not to leave a yummy steak on the counter). He has loved all toys and knows tricks; sit, stay, and down. He has a habit of jumping on people for hugs and attention, but tries his best to be gentle. During his medical exams and treatment, Willis was a total sweetheart and just happy to be included. ❤ He absolutely loves cuddles, wants to lay on top of you if he can, and could use some reassurance during storms as thunder scares him. Willis is truly just a big baby in a big dog body. Willis has a mild hind leg limp that comes and goes. Recent imaging and veterinary examination determined no surgical intervention is needed, and likely the result of a healed injury. He is currently on an anti-inflammatory medication, though continuing this medication will need to be evaluated with his future primary vet. His ideal home would include copious amounts of cuddles, another friend (dogs, cats, or kiddos would do!), and a short walk every now and then.

Bonded Kitties Looking for Forever Home! 🐈🐈
We know it's adopt a shelter dog month, but we can't leave our kitty friends behind. We have a pair of brothers that are looking for a loving home, together!

Meet Tootsie (buff, 2yrs old) and Jules (orange, 4yrs old)! These boys were surrendered due to housing issues and have been attached at the hip since arrival. When they first came in, they were a bit unsure of the new smells, sights, people, and leaned on each other for comfort. Luckily, wet food is usually the way to a cats heart, and they've since adjusted great. These two are always within a whisker of each other and insist on sharing the same bed to cuddle. They are friendly with other cats, may do okay with a calm dog, have grown to love affection from visitors, and are food fanatics. When not cuddling, they're either patting a toy back and forth or politely begging for more snacks. These two boys will need to find a home together, as they are obviously kitty soul mates.

💖💛 Thank you to the Members of the Spanish Honor Society at McCutchen High School for surprising us, more specifically our animals, with plenty of full bellies! Students, along with their Advisor, surprised us yesterday with huge bags of dog and cat food. They unloaded everything and took a quick peek at the animals they were helping. As a completely donation funded organization that receives ZERO government funding, this is exactly the support that lifts our spirits and keeps us going! We're feeling beyond grateful!

🐾 Day 21 of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month - Meet Rio!

Rio is a 6 year old, 48lb bully type mix that was originally found as a stray. He was a very underweight when he was rescued, but had no problem helping put the pounds back on. Now that he's a solid weight, he's ready for his next big adventure!

This boy is a food lover and believes snacks are always a good idea. He's working on taking treats gently, and will need to continue working on this in his future home. Rio's got a soft spot for stuffed toys and loves carrying his stuffy around to show off. He has been a big fan of attention and is always curious and interested about what's going on around him. He's been dog friendly here and might enjoy a home with another canine companion. For now, Rio will need older kids in the home while he works on his treat-taking manners. This boy has a love for life, and is ready to settle into one with a family to call his own.

🐾 Day 20 of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month - Meet Maloney!

Maloney is a 2 year old, 64lb rottweiler mix, eager to meet his new human! He was recently surrendered due to housing issues, and his previous owners provided us with plenty of helpful information to find him a wonderful home!

Maloney has previously lived with cats and children, and is noted as a gentle giant around babies. He's also done well with dogs in playgroups, though he has not lived with one (yet!). He can have an intimidating bark to strangers, but comes around quickly (especially if snacks are involved). Treats are a sure-fire way to his heart! This smart guy knows a host of tricks including sit, stay, come, down, and shake. For toys, he is not a picky boy and just wants to have fun! He's also a big fan of the water hose. Maloney is used to 5 potty breaks a day, one walk a week, is potty trained, and behaves in the home uncrated! He's a strong, sturdy guy that wants a playful family to match!

This big, bouncy guy is a whole lot of fun packed into one big package! He has plenty of energy and is always ready to get out, play, and enjoy life. Maloney is a fun-loving guy looking for a family ready to keep up with his energy and join him in all the fun! If you think he sounds like a match, stop by to visit him anytime we're open!

🐾 Day 19 of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Month - Meet Rasta!

We've featured Rasta before, and we're not sure how this awesome boy has not been swooped up yet! Rasta is a couch potato that is in a foster home where we're learning a ton about him. He is searching for a forever couch to call his own!

Rasta is a 6 year old mix breed, and weighs about 65 lbs. 🐾💙 He shares his foster home with a very playful dog and has enjoyed every minute of it! His foster family describes him as goofy, very friendly (this boy has not met a stranger), and is an outgoing boy. He could do well in a home with dogs, kids, and possibly cats! He's shown a few of his tricks off such as "sit" and "lay down", and is quite a smart boy. Rasta is always eager to meet people and always has a wagging tail! He hangs out in the house uncrated, and sleeps in his kennel through the night. His ideal home will let him day dream on the couch all day, sun bathe on a walk or in the yard, and have plenty of pets and snacks.

🐾 Day 16 of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month - Meet Felix!

Felix (Ymir) is an active shepherd looking for a home of his own! He was surrendered due to housing changes. His previous owner worked on making Felix a respectable member of doggy society and provided tons of helpful information during their 2 years together.

Felix was friendly with unfamiliar people in the yard and home, but would sometimes bark and alert. He went on walks twice a week, pottied 4 times a day outside, and had no accidents in the house. He's a potty-trained boy! He spent most of his time uncrated in the home, and can be trusted unkennelled! His favorite toys are balls, stuffed toys, rope toys, and squirrel toys. Felix LOVES to play fetch and is a champ at it. He'll happily join you in a game of fetch for as long as you're willing to throw the ball. He can jump on people when excited, but does his best to keep all four paws on the floor. He's scared of thunder, and knows a few tricks too! Sit, Come, Go Get It, and Kennel, are some tricks he'll happily show off! Felix has shown no issues guarding food or toys, though he is a food lover and will eagerly devour anything you give him. His previous owner also noted he gets along with children! He lived with another dog that we have available for adoption, Eclipse, and his previous owner said he gets along with other dogs very well.

Felix would love a home that is looking for a true shepherd. He's active, wants to do something, clings to his human, can be trusted uncrated in a home, is potty trained, gets along with dogs, has done well with kids, passed his cat test, and is potty trained! He sits for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and can be polite if given the chance. Unfortunately, he looks intimidating in his kennel (no matter how many times we ask him to simmer down), which has kept some adopters from seeing his true self! He's an overall typical shepherd personality, eager to please with plenty of s***k to match.

Update: We're happy to say Baby has been Adopted! 🎉
Thank you to everyone that had a hand in this sweet girl's journey! Affectionately named "Baby" by the volunteers that brought her to us, Baby is officially available for adoption. 🍼 ❤ Stop in to see her anytime we're open!

When puppies and young dogs enter animal control, it’s especially important to move them into placement as quickly as possible. Their developing immune systems can make them more vulnerable to diseases.

🐾 Day 15 of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month - Meet Sneezy!

Sneezy is an 11 month old, Great Pyrenees mix, who's still learning how to dog. This little goofball is a youngster who's going to continue growing into a big bundle of fun! Sneezy is working on building her confidence to match her big breed size! She appreciates slow introductions with new people, and may prefer to explore the area more than you at first. It's nothing personal, just what Sneezy needs to work up the confidence to make new friends! She is a dog LOVER and has been fantastic in play groups. If there is a shy or nervous dog, she is our go-to girl to help pull them out of their nerves and play with her. Sneezy is cat friendly, and has done well with kids, though she still needs slow introductions as we build up her confidence. Patient adopters willing to give her the time she needs will get to watch this special girl blossom into her best self!

Sneezy is looking for a family that will give her a minute to settle in, and would love other pets in the home, dog or cat! 🐕 🐈 She'll entertain you all day while she frolics around, gets the zoomies, and forgets the meaning of "personal space" as soon as she learns you're safe.
