🎉🐾 One Week Old Today! 🐾🎉

It's hard to believe Ivy Rose and Enzo's babies are already one week old!

During the first week of life, puppies spend nearly all of their time doing three things: eating, sleeping, and growing. While they may not look very active yet, incredible development is happening behind the scenes.

At one week old:
🐾 Their eyes and ears are still closed.
🐾 They rely completely on their mother for warmth, nutrition, and care.
🐾 Their sense of touch and smell are their strongest senses.
🐾 They spend up to 90% of their day sleeping as their bodies and brains develop.
🐾 Healthy weight gain is one of the most important indicators that they are thriving.

Over the next week, we'll begin to see exciting changes as they continue to grow stronger and prepare for their eyes to open.

For now, life is simple: warm milk, cozy naps, and staying close to Momma. ❤️

This morning, our beloved Kai was hit by a vehicle on union ave, and the driver who hit him fled. Kai is in an extremely fragile and critical state and is on all supports to keeping him alive at this very moment at the Concord VCA.

Kai is only 2 and means more than the world to our family. What the vet is asking financially to keep him alive is beyond what our family can handle and we want more than anything for Kai to stick through with us.

Sunday mornings are for slowing down, soaking in the little moments, and enjoying the sweetest kind of peace. ❤️

Mama is resting comfortably with her babies tucked safely beside her, and all is quiet in the whelping box this morning. Watching her care for these little ones is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best moments are the simplest ones.

Today my heart is full. ❤️

My American staffy Red had needed a wheelchair in his last month or so on earth, after he passed away at age 15 I kept it in case we ever needed it again but hoping we wouldn't. The other day I saw a post from a family who had a dog who needed one but they couldn't afford it and rather than letting reds sit unused, I donated it to a family whose dog could truly benefit from it. They offered to pay me but I declined, I asked that when they no longer needed it to pass it on to another dog in need in red's memory.

Today they sent me this video of their dog happily using it, and I can't even describe how much it meant to see.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. What was once a tool that helped my dog maintain his mobility and independence is now giving another dog the same opportunity.

It's a reminder that when we're able to help others, whether it's through our time, resources, or simply sharing something we no longer need, that kindness has the potential to keep giving long after we've passed it on.

Seeing that wheelchair get a second life and bring joy to another family is far more rewarding than anything I could have done by keeping it.

Be kind when you can. Give when you're able. You never know how much of a difference it may make. ❤️🐾

👼🐾 In Loving Memory of Golden Guardian Pax Aeternum 🐾👼

Though your time with us was only four short days, you were loved, cherished, and fought for every moment you were here.

As breeders, we pour our hearts into every puppy. We monitor them around the clock, celebrate every milestone, and do everything possible to help them thrive. Sometimes, despite every precaution, every intervention, and every ounce of love we can give, nature has a different plan.

Pax's passing was sudden and unexpected. While our hearts are broken by his loss, we find comfort in knowing that his time here was filled only with warmth, comfort, full bellies, gentle hands, and unconditional love. He never knew neglect, fear, or hardship. He was treasured from the moment he entered this world until the moment he earned his wings.

The hardest part of breeding is saying goodbye to a puppy you had already begun dreaming about. A puppy who mattered. A puppy who was deeply wanted and loved.

Some lives are measured not by the number of days we are given, but by the love we leave behind. Though Pax's journey was brief, he touched our hearts forever.

Run free, sweet boy. You were here for far too short a time, but you will always be remembered.

Why Newborn Puppies Twitch in Their Sleep 🐾💤

If you’ve ever watched a newborn puppy sleep, you may notice little twitches, jerks, or tiny movements of their paws, face, or body. This is completely normal and is called activated sleep (also known as REM sleep).

Activated sleep plays a critical role in healthy neurological development. During this stage, a puppy’s brain is actively forming and strengthening connections between the brain and muscles. Those small twitches are actually helping the nervous system “map” the body—teaching the brain how to control movement as the puppy grows.

Newborn puppies spend a large portion of their time sleeping, and much of that sleep is activated sleep because:
• Their brains are developing rapidly
• Motor skills are being programmed
• Sensory pathways are forming

This is why twitching is a good sign, not something to worry about. It shows the brain and nervous system are doing exactly what they should be doing.

As puppies mature, you’ll notice this twitching becomes less frequent as their nervous system becomes more refined—but it never fully disappears, even in adult dogs.

So when you see those tiny wiggles and twitches, you’re watching healthy development in action. 🖤🐶
