UPDATE:
NOT SURE WHAT KIND IF BARN THE ARMY WANTS TO BUILD for over 2 million dollars ….
Good morning,
I wanted to take a moment to inform you of an upcoming change to our 502nd Force Support Squadron Morale Welfare and Recreation programs which will affect you.
After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our JBSA-Lackland Stable Club, and we have identified that you currently board an animal(s) at this location.
There are several factors which lead to this difficult decision, one of which is the safety of those who utilize the facility and the equines living there. After thorough inspection, the current infrastructure has been found to no longer be viable, and we are unable to maintain it to the level required to keep everyone safe. Recent facility reviews showed the investment needed to keep the stables operational exceeds❓ $2M❓, which is not something our local MWR can accommodate.
The Force Support Squadron team has developed a plan to close the facility, and I support them in their efforts as they work to transition all equines staying there to other facilities, including stables at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.
We are allowing a 6-month period for you to seek an alternative solution. During this time, you will be allowed to keep your equine at the Lackland stables and will not be charge any fees or dues.
If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to attend a town hall at 6 p.m., August 1st, at the JBSA-Lackland Gateway Club to receive more information, learn about alternative boarding options, and ask questions.
Please be assured that we are doing our best to ensure a smooth transition. Please also know that this decision was not taken lightly, and every effort is being made to minimize the impact to you and the others using the facility. I want to ensure you that our Force Support Squadron personnel will fully support you during this transition and will do everything they can to lessen the impact on you and your animal.
