Masthope Mountain Community Cats - TNRM and Rescue Program (MMC Cats Program originally named Feral Cat Program) began in 2011 when resident Karen Spano volunteered to help the feral cat population. Karen worked with the Board of Directors to allocate resources to trap, neuter/spay, vaccinate, return and manage our feral cats. In 2021 we expanded the program to include socialization and adoption s

ervices for feral kittens as an alternative to returning them to their habitat. We also started fundraising to provides medical care when needed, and provide additional services (microchipping, FeLV, FIV testing) for our kittens going into foster care. The program has grown exponentially to include volunteers and community support in a never-ending effort to control the homeless cat population by spay/neutering, providing vaccinations and other necessary veterinary treatments, as well finding them furever homes when possible. We bid farewell to Midnight today 🐈‍⬛ 💔

Midnight resided near the compactor and was cared for by devoted hoMEOWners. She may have been spotted basking in the sun on the steps of their residence. She was cherished until the end. 🙏 😻

We received a call yesterday regarding a critically ill cat and Karen Spano and I picked her up and scheduled a veterinary appointment for this morning. Midnight, however, had other plans. In the warmth of my home, she peacefully laid her head down for the final time this morning, shortly before the scheduled vet appointment, and took her last breath.

She is now free from suffering and awaits reunification at the rainbow bridge 🌈 🐾.

Our maintenance crew Charlene assisted with the burial today, laying her to rest alongside our other feral companions in their final resting place.

RIP Midnight. You will be missed 😿

🧡 Happy Thanksgiving, Masthope Mountain Community! 🧡 What an aMEOWzing village 😻

This season, we’re extra grateful for the compassion, teamwork, and dedication that make our Masthope Mountain Community Cat TNRM & Rescue efforts possible.

Thanks to you — our amazing mountain community - supporters, fosters, donors, adopters, and feral caretakers — we have so much to celebrate in being able to help the 24 kittens/cats directly impacted by our program in the past year. 🙀

🐾 21 total Masthope community cats spayed/neutered in the past year — preventing countless future litters.

🐾 1 Masthope community cat previously spayed through our program in a prior year was rehomed.

🐾 1 friendly stray already spayed cat was taken into foster care, vetted and adopted.

🐾 1 outdoor semi-feral cat already spayed was successfully placed in a loving foster home to decompress and be socialized and is doing well.

🐾 😻 🐾 😻 🐾 😻 🐾 😻 🐾 😻 🐾 😻

The 21 cats/kittens spayed/neutered break down as follows:

😻 9 TNRs this year. All released to dedicated feeders who show up every single day to feed, water and provide them shelter.

😻 12 wonderful adoption stories including:

🐾 A family of 5 - 4 kittens born outside rescued along with their beautiful mama
🐾 2 kittens wandering to the Summit
🐾 1 abandoned adult cat rescued from a home
🐾 1 kitten that was taken indoors into foster care but never adopted out and is now a squatter in their foster home.
🐾 3 separate stories of kittens who literally wandered into the lives of our community members.

Our monies:

🐾 $3,871 on medical bills ($2,300 on one kitten rescued just in time)

🐾 $1,935 at spay/neuter clinics.

🐾 $675 raised to help out a previously abandoned cat from 2024 and adopted, get life saving oral surgery.

Every trap set, every share, every can of food or supplies donated, and every adoption truly makes a difference. This village proves again and again what kindness can do.

We are also so blessed to continue our aMEOWzing collaboration with C Alley Cats of Lake Wallenpaupack for a fourth year in which our community cats get access to the resources and we benefit from their best practices of a non-profit rescue.
