The WVA Council has selected the theme “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health” to highlight the systemic role of veterinary services in safeguarding food safety, food security, public health, and animal health worldwide.

From farm to fork, veterinarians are at the frontline of ensuring that food of animal origin is safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced. Their work protects consumers, supports sustainable food systems, prevents zoonotic diseases, and strengthens global health security.

The 2026 theme recognises that global food systems are increasingly interconnected and exposed to emerging disease threats, climate-related pressures, antimicrobial resistance, and economic volatility. In this context, veterinarians act not only as animal health professionals, but as essential actors in health security, sustainable food systems, and economic resilience/sustainability. World Veterinary Day 2026 aims to elevate public understanding and policy recognition of veterinary services as a cornerstone of sustainable and secure food systems.

We are proud of our collegues on the frontline!

Saturday is World Veterinary Day. This year, the World Veterinary Association has selected the theme "Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health." It’s a theme meant to highlight the systemic role veterinary services play worldwide—from safeguarding food security and "farm to fork" safety to protecting public health and strengthening global health security.

While our daily work at Mountain View isn't in the food industry, that spirit of "guardianship" is at the very heart of what we do. Here, we are Guardians of Family and Health. Part of that guardianship is protecting your household from zoonotic diseases like Rabies and Leptospirosis, which can spread from local wildlife to your pets and potentially to the people who love them. But it’s also about the long game. Through preventative medicine and consistent care, we aren't just treating symptoms—we are guarding the longevity of your pet. Our goal is to ensure those tail wags and purrs last for as many years as possible.

By keeping individual pets healthy, we help keep our entire Lacey community safe, preventing the spread of illness in our neighborhoods and local parks. Since 1993, we have held ourselves to the highest standards, including our AAHA accreditation, because your best friends deserve a dedicated advocate.

We are proud to be the guardians of the bond you share with your pets, because they’re not just pets... they’re family.

We will be sponsoring the 5th Annual Paws 4 A Cause event on Saturday, May 2nd. Come check out our booth. Register for walking your dog. We'll see you there!

Like you, we LOVE our pets! 🥰 We also love working with our community to raise money to eliminate cancer and to support those who are affected by cancer. The 5th Annual Paws 4 A Cause Walk to End Cancer is a dog-friendly walk fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, beginning at Heritage Park/Capitol Lake, Olympia, WA. The event is not timed.

All proceeds raised by the Paws 4 A Cause dog walk fundraiser will benefit the American Cancer Society and the Animal Cancer Foundation – both organizations dedicated to finding a cure for cancer! Harlan's Homes 4 Hope Relay for Life team is coordinating this event. Over the past 17 years, our team has raised over $360,000 to help eliminate cancer - we are one of the top fundraising teams in Thurston County. Join us in the fight!

We are coordinating with Event Advisor Lisa Parshley, Veterinarian Oncologist. With your help, we can beat our fundraising record from last year! Our goal this year is to donate $30,000!

Find out more and register for the event at olypaws4acause.com. Early registrants (on or before April 11th) get a free t-shirt on event day!

We are so excited to see you and your furry friends there! 🐶🐾

We are incredibly proud to recognize Dr. Karen Hook as our Employee of the Month! Dr. Hook was unanimously nominated for her remarkable dedication to our patients and the team. On a day she was already fully scheduled for surgeries, another doctor had to leave unexpectedly to handle an urgent matter. Rather than finishing her procedures and heading home, Dr. Hook stayed late to see all of the other doctor’s remaining appointments. Her selflessness ensured that every patient received the care they needed that day and saved many of our clients from having to reschedule their visits.

Dr. Hook’s journey in medicine began in the small towns of Montana and Eastern Washington, where she was active in 4-H, FBLA, hiking, and horseback riding. She knew early on that veterinary medicine was her calling, as it perfectly blended her love for problem-solving and surgery with her desire to support people who love animals. After graduating from the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990, she practiced in several locations before joining the Mountain View Veterinary Hospital family in 2001.

When she isn’t at the hospital, Dr. Hook is an avid quilter and a brave kayaker—she even completed a 100-mile trip on the Washington coast from Neah Bay to Kalaloch! At home, she is happily owned by her cat, Mischief, her two dogs, Mina and Rosie, and her brand-new Doberman puppy, Figaro. Thank you, Dr. Hook, for your decades of expertise and for always going above and beyond for our "family" here at Mountain View!
