The sidewalk that feels warm to your hand? It's scorching to your dog's paws. In Southern California summers, pavement can reach 150°F — hot enough to cause burns in under a minute. A quick test: press the back of your hand to the pavement for 7 seconds. If you can't hold it there, neither can they. Walk early mornings or after sunset, stick to grass when you can, and watch for heavy panting, drooling, or stumbling — those are signs of heatstroke and need immediate attention. Summer should be fun for your pet, not dangerous. We're here if you need us.

Spring walks in La Verne are beautiful, but watch out for these common hazards: foxtails hiding in grassy areas (they burrow into paws, ears, and noses), toxic plants like oleander and azaleas along trails, bees and wasps around blooming flowers, and hot pavement as temperatures rise. After every walk, check between paw pads for foxtails and debris, rinse off pollen, and watch for excessive licking or limping. A quick check can prevent a painful vet visit. Enjoy the season safely.

One of the most common questions we get: 'My dog threw up. Should I be worried?' Here's the quick guide. Single episode, acting normal otherwise, eating and drinking fine? Usually okay to monitor. Multiple episodes in 24 hours, lethargic, won't eat or drink, blood in vomit, or known toxin ingestion? Call us right away. Not sure? That's what our telemedicine consults are for. Quick peace of mind from home.
