Cold-laser therapy…for a chicken? Absolutely. 🐔✨

Depending on the patient and condition being treated, a veterinarian may recommend cold-laser therapy as one part of an individualized care plan.

This ACES patient is a wonderful example of how treatment options can be adapted to the animal in front of us, even when that patient has feathers.

Cold laser is not appropriate for every condition, so recommendations should always follow a veterinary examination.

Do you know when your pet’s rabies vaccination is due? 🐶🐱

Rabies prevention protects pets, families and the wider community. Keeping your dog or cat’s vaccination current is one of the most important steps you can take, and World Rabies Day is a good reminder to check their records. 💉

Exotic pets don’t always make illness obvious. Sometimes the first warning is simply that something about their normal routine has changed. 🦜🦎🐰

Call your veterinarian promptly if you notice changes such as:

🥣 Refusing food or eating significantly less
🫁 Open-mouth breathing, labored breathing or unusual respiratory movement
💧 Bubbles or discharge around the nose
⬇️ A bird sitting on the enclosure floor or unable to perch
🐾 Weakness, limping or difficulty moving normally
🥚 Straining or repeated attempts to lay an egg
🦎 Retained shed accompanied by swelling, discoloration or problems around the eyes or toes
⚖️ Noticeable weight loss or declining body condition

Not every change means the same thing for every species, but waiting for an exotic pet to look dramatically ill can mean waiting too long.
