Let's take a moment to celebrate an incredible journey. Cali has officially graduated from my program, and what a remarkable horsewoman she has become! Starting her adventure at just 13, she has shown tremendous dedication while training her two horses through weekly lessons.
Derby, an old brood mare with a challenging past, has blossomed thanks to Cali's gentle guidance. Once explosive and defensive, Derby has now shed her traumas, emerging as a lovely saddle horse who embraces her new life. It’s been heartwarming to witness Derby move past her struggles and truly shine.
Then there's Sassy, who was 10 months old when we started, who is now approaching four years old. Cali has laid a fantastic foundation for her, both emotionally and physically, preparing Sassy for more advanced training under saddle. Currently, Cali has introduced her to under-saddle work, completing around six walk-trot rides. It's exciting to see Sassy find a dedicated trainer now, who will focus on fine-tuning her skills as Cali prepares to take her further into competition training.
When we first met, Cali was shy and withdrawn, but now, at nearly 17, she has transformed into an extraordinary young lady and horsewoman. While working with me on her two horses, she also attended additional riding lessons at another barn, honing her skills as both a rider and horseman.
Through the nurturing of her traumatized mare and the development of her young filly into her dream horse, Cali has truly blossomed. She has learned about leadership, established strong boundaries, enhanced her awareness and mindfulness, and improved her communication and nervous system regulation. The hard work she invested has paid off, turning her and her horses into a cohesive team.
I am deeply grateful to have witnessed the growth and transformation of all three. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Cali and Sassy as they venture into whatever competition discipline she chooses. Here's to the bright future that awaits them!
