🇺🇸🐾 WE WILL NEVER FORGET. 9•11•2001
Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the incredible search-and-rescue dogs who worked tirelessly alongside their handlers in the days and weeks that followed.
Among the four-legged heroes we remember:
🐕🦺 Sirius — A 4-year-old Port Authority Police K-9 who tragically lost his life in the South Tower. His handler, Officer David Lim, survived the collapse.
🐾 Bretagne — A Golden Retriever who searched through the rubble at Ground Zero and became the last known surviving search-and-rescue dog who served there.
🐾 Riley — A Golden Retriever who searched the devastation at Ground Zero, working alongside his handler to locate victims in the rubble.
🐕🦺 Apollo — An NYPD K-9 and one of the first search-and-rescue dogs to arrive at the World Trade Center following the attacks.
These are only a few of the extraordinary dogs who served. From searching through unimaginable rubble to comforting exhausted first responders, these four-legged heroes demonstrated courage, loyalty, and an unwavering willingness to work alongside their humans.
Today, Caloosa Humane Society honors every life lost—human and animal—and every hero who answered the call.
