Two custom-molded fish were sent home tonight to memorialize two special days on the water: a beautiful Doitsu koi and an extremely unique melanistic longnose gar.
The koi features a classic Kohaku pattern of red and black patches on a white body, with the characteristic Doitsu scale pattern—mostly scaleless skin with a line of large mirror scales along the dorsal line. This fish was taken in Pennsylvania waters.
The second fish is an extremely rare melanistic longnose gar. Caused by an overproduction of melanin, this condition gives the fish a striking black appearance. This is only the second melanistic fish I have worked on—a true one-of-a-kind trophy. The gar was taken in Kentucky.
Both fish were custom-molded, cast, and finished in colors matching the actual catches.
Congratulations, Donovan Remp, on two special trophies, and thank you for using my service. Enjoy the mounts and the memories!
