Ghostdanzr getting ready for his fall breeding schedule.

He is a six year old, heterozygous black stallion carrying the W19 gene, which causes bald faces, high leg white, and belly and body white. He is a purebred Arabian. And even rarer than his color is his quality. Many of these color producing Arabians lack the conformation, type, movement, size, and disposition that Ghost is blessed with. And with four babies on the ground, two of which carry his wild and amazing color, he is demonstrating that he is passing these qualities on.

Next year will see more Ghost babies, and we literally can't wait!

These are from genetics so rare as to be nearly extinct. The straight Spanish Arabian is less than 1% of the overall Arabian population now, and it was the Spanish genetics that were part of nearly EVERY SINGLE modern show winning Arabian. To find colts with 50% Spanish and 50% of some of the rarest and most valued Crabbet breeding is like finding a genetic gold mine. Just LOOK at the pedigrees on these guys!

Farm work never ends, and mowing is one of those jobs that I enjoy - even though it's exhausting. I love to look at all of the different plants as I am mowing; weeds, grasses, trees, there are so many different types of flora and fauna that I don't know, but I love to learn. There are parts of the fields that when you mow them, it smells like a giant teabag; an almost acrid yet sweet smell; and the smell of the seed heads as they burst is pungent. The autumn sun shines out of a partly cloudy sky, and the wind blows strong. Birds come in from everywhere to take advantage of all of the mice, rats, and rabbits that flee from the mower. Our farm sees a lot of golden eagles in the winter. They are here early this year, perhaps this really will be a severe winter. We normally don't see them until Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful day, and though I am sore and sunburned, and will be coughing up ick for the next several days, it was worth it.
