🐾 Meet Peake — and look at him go! 🐾

Feline stomatitis is a hard disease for everyone. It’s painful for the cat, frustrating to manage, and one of the hardest recommendations for owners to hear can be: ā€œWe need to extract all of his teeth.ā€

It sounds so drastic. How will they eat? Will they still play? Will they have a normal life without teeth?

Well… meet Peake. ā¤ļø

Peake is only 2 years old and came to us on Thursday for treatment of severe stomatitis. Dr. Martin, our anesthesiologist, developed an individualized anesthesia and pain-management protocol to keep Peake as safe and comfortable as possible, while Dr. Burton performed his full-mouth extractions.

And this is Peake THE VERY NEXT DAY! 🄹

Eating. Playing with his siblings. Already showing us just how resilient cats are and how quickly they can feel better when that constant source of oral pain is removed.

Full-mouth extractions can sound scary, but for cats suffering from stomatitis, they can be life-changing. Cats do incredibly well without their teeth — and a pain-free mouth is far more important than a mouth full of painful teeth.

Peake, you are one tough little guy, and seeing you feeling this good so quickly is exactly why we do what we do. ā¤ļøšŸ±šŸ¦·

In specialty medicine, we often meet a patient once or twice, help them feel better, and then send them back to the wonderful care of their primary veterinarian. We love being a part of their journey, but we don’t always get the privilege of watching that journey unfold.

And then there’s Alvin. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Alvin first came to us with a fractured jaw, and from the moment he walked through our doors, he completely stole our hearts.
This sweet boy had a broken jaw and was STILL making biscuits and purring while we placed his IV catheter and gave his pre-medications. 🄹 If that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about Alvin, I don’t know what will.

Between procedures, repairs, rechecks, and follow-ups, we think Alvin has visited us around 10 times. At that point, you’re no longer ā€œjust a patient.ā€ You’re part of the East Tennessee Veterinary Dentistry family. ā¤ļø

Today, we received the sweetest message letting us know how well Alvin is doing, and to say it made our day would be an understatement.

We are SO happy for this sweet boy, and we cannot thank his amazing owners enough for the incredible amount of love, patience, dedication, and care they poured into getting him better. Healing a jaw fracture isn’t always an easy road, and they never gave up on him—even when it meant bringing him back to see us again…and again…and again. ā¤ļø

Alvin, we are going to miss your biscuits, your purrs, and that precious face walking through our doors. We’re so thankful we got to be a small part of your story. Keep doing amazing, sweet boy. You will always have a whole team here who loves you. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

How adorable is Bugg? šŸ¾šŸ’™
Today was a big day for this sweet boy—he had the rest of his teeth removed, which means he officially graduated from needing dental procedures! While we’re thrilled he’ll never need another dental treatment, we’ll definitely miss seeing his sweet face around the clinic.
We do hope Bugg stops by for a visit every now and then! 🄰
And can we take a moment to appreciate Mom’s shirt? We absolutely love it! ā¤ļø
Wishing Bugg a smooth recovery and many happy, pain-free years ahead! 🐶✨

Juno came to see us for a recheck of his root canaled upper fourth premolar that was treated about 5 years ago — and we are so happy to report that everything looks GREAT! 🦷✨

All of his teeth look healthy and stable, and his previous treatment is holding beautifully. We love seeing long-term success stories like this!

Thank you, Dr. Hanrath, for trusting us with your sweet baby. It truly means so much to care for pets belonging to fellow professionals. šŸ’™

Way to go, Juno! 🐶

Zac, a gentle giant Great Dane, traveled all the way from Florida to get the help he needed for an oral tumor that, if left untreated, would have compromised both his quality and length of life.

After a successful mandibulectomy to remove the tumor, we are thrilled to share that Zac is healing beautifully and eating well! šŸ’ŖšŸ¶ It took a little time and adjustment for him to learn to eat with a shorter lower jaw, but he has done amazing—and his sweet spirit never wavered.

We are so proud of Zac and honored to be part of his journey. Big love to this brave boy and his devoted family. We love you, Zac! šŸ’™

Coco came in today for a 2 week healing recheck on a rostral mandibulectomy.Ā Ā Removing a portion of the jaw bone is sometimes necessary to treat an oral tumor and the decision to do so can be difficult for owners.Ā Ā Fear of decreased function or abnormal appearance are among the most common when facing this decision, but as you can see, Coco looks great and is doing very well at home and the best news is that the tumor was completely removed and Coco is cured.Ā Ā Merry Christmas Coco!
