We’ve introduced you to sweet Blue before, but today we’d like to share a little more of his story.
Blue first came to see us in August 2025 after his mom noticed his abdomen had become swollen and he wasn’t acting like his usual happy self. After an initial visit to a local emergency hospital, she brought him to us for further evaluation. Through diagnostic testing, including a heartworm test, we confirmed that Blue was positive for Heartworm Disease.
Based on the severity of his condition, Dr. Alred and our treatment team developed a treatment plan tailored specifically to Blue’s needs. Unfortunately, his heartworm infection had already caused complications. Blue was also diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. Given the extent of his disease, it is very likely that Blue had heartworms before he was adopted by his loving family.
Many people don’t realize that Heartworm Disease isn’t spread directly from pet to pet. It is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, which can pass microscopic heartworm larvae to a pet with just a single bite. That’s why annual heartworm testing and year-round prevention are so important for every dog.
A heartworm diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but Blue has shown us what resilience, patience, and determination truly look like. Heartworm treatment is a long journey that requires months of care, strict activity restriction, and a tremendous commitment from both pets and their families. Through it all, Blue has remained one of the sweetest and happiest patients we have the privilege of caring for.
Today, we’re not only sharing Blue’s story, we’re also celebrating how far he’s come. His progress has been incredible, and his journey is a testament to the difference that a devoted family and dedicated veterinary care can make.
Every visit with Blue reminds us why we love what we do.
Please join us in cheering him on as he continues his journey toward a healthier future. 💙
