One of our favorite things about being a locally owned small business is getting to be part of a community that shows up for one another. ❤️

A few weeks ago, we saw that Gus's Good Times Deli had started an "Adopt a Teacher" project to help local teachers with the classroom supplies they so often end up purchasing out of their own pockets.

We immediately knew we wanted in. 🍎✏️📚

Thanks to Gus’s, Forest Park Animal Clinic had the opportunity to adopt a local teacher and help get her classroom ready for a new school year.

But what has been especially wonderful to watch is what happened around this project. Gus’s reached out across Knoxville, and local small businesses stepped up — not because there was something in it for them, but because someone in our community needed a little help.

That is the kind of Knoxville we are proud to be part of. ❤️

A HUGE thank-you to the folks at Gus's Good Times Deli for having the idea, doing the work to bring everyone together, matching teachers with sponsors, and reminding all of us what supporting local really looks like.

We’re pretty proud to be one of the small businesses that got to say, "Count us in.”

And now… we have some school-supply shopping to do! 🛒🍎

Pet Memorial Day: Remembering DJ

Many of our clients see DJ before they ever meet one of us.

His portrait hangs in our lobby, welcoming everyone who walks through the doors of Forest Park Animal Clinic. The painting was commissioned from one of my favorite photos of him, but to me, it represents so much more than a beautiful little dog.

DJ was dropped off at the clinic in very bad shape. We never knew exactly how old he was. He weighed only three pounds and had many health issues, but after we fixed him up (a whole clinic effort) and gave him the care he needed, his true personality came shining through.

He was loving. He was happy. He loved to bark. And while I worked, I often carried him around the clinic in a cross-body pouch, close to me as I moved through my day.

I only had DJ for 18 months before he passed, but those 18 months changed me.
DJ reinvigorated my love for veterinary medicine and reminded me why I own a veterinary clinic. He reminded me that this work is not just about medicine. It is about giving comfort, restoring dignity, easing suffering, and loving animals through every stage of their lives.

He may have been tiny, but his impact was enormous. He not only impacted me, but everyone who worked at the clinic at the time.

On Pet Memorial Day, we remember DJ and all the beloved pets who have shaped our lives, taught us what love looks like, and stayed with us long after goodbye.
