Join us in wishing Shelby a happy 12th birthday! She was diagnosed with lymphoma in July 2025 and is currently undergoing her second round of CHOP chemotherapy. She’s doing great! Medical oncology resident Dr. Amber Brown and the rest of the oncology service love it when Shelby comes to see them!

This Sunday, October 25, is the 13th Howl-O-Ween Pooch Parade and Pet Expo at the UT Gardens Knoxville. It is free to attend and includes various pet-related vendors and rescues. Food trucks will also be on hand. There is a fee to enter the costume parade. Pre-registration (ends Thursday) is $10 per entry (can include multiple dogs as one costume) and $15 day of registration (between 1pm and 2:45). The day also includes a food drive for CAIT. Forecast calls for highs in the lower 70’s.

Sunday, October 25
1pm – 5pm
UT Gardens
Parade begins at 3pm.
Categories include “Bad to the Bone,” “Funny Bone,” “Do(g) It Yourself,” and “Pup Culture.” They will also choose a “Bone-a-Fido” best in show.

The 13th annual Howl-O-Ween Pooch Parade and Pet Expo is just one week away! Join us Sunday, October 25, at UT Gardens, Knoxville, from 1–5 p.m. for an afternoon of costumed pups, pet businesses, rescue groups and family-friendly fun.

Sometimes, the best reminder of why you do what you do has four legs and a wagging tail. Meet Dogtor Walsh, the beloved companion of one of our veterinary students. In the midst of the demanding coursework, long hours, and challenges of veterinary school, he offers a reminder of the animals at the heart of it all—and why the journey is worth it. Thanks, Brittany and Jillian for capturing such a great story!

In Big Orange Country, there’s no arguing that Smokey is the top dog on Rocky Top. But he’s not the only canine on campus.

Walsh, a black Labrador Retriever, is fetching his own attention on the University of Tennessee campus and online.

“I think it gets to his head a little bit sometimes,” joked Walsh’s owner, Emily Peoples.
