🌽🐛 Pest of the Week: Corn Earworm!

Harvest season might be slowing down, but these pests just keep munching on whatever is still growing! 😤🌱

The corn earworm is the larval stage of a moth that loves corn but isn’t picky when it comes to the garden. These hungry caterpillars can feed on more than 100 different types of plants, including tomatoes, peppers, beans, okra, and lettuce.

🔎 Keep an eye out for:
🌽 Chewed or damaged corn kernels, especially near the tip of the ear
🐛 Small green, brown, or yellowish caterpillars
💩 Frass (caterpillar p**p!) around damaged areas
🍅 Chewed leaves or fruits on other garden crops
🦋 Small tan-brown moths flying around in the evening

If you’re still harvesting, check your plants regularly and handpick caterpillars when you spot them. And once the harvest is over, be sure to clean up your garden beds and remove heavily damaged plant material to reduce places where earworms can nest and overwinter!
