Asheville Highway Animal Hospital was started in 1979 as a one-veterinarian animal clinic operated in the same location by the founder, Dr. Joseph Kendrick. "Dr. Joe" has a deep love for animals and a vision of a veterinary hospital that treats pets with the same level of medical care and attention given to human patients. It was his insight and dedication to veterinary medicine that has brought t

he family owned clinic to where it is today. Now accompanied by his son, "Dr. Rick" Kendrick, his daughter-in law "Dr. Reichla" Kendrick, and "Dr. Lori" Baxter, the full service facility offers the most comprehensive and up-to-date treatment for pets within the surrounding area.

Listennnn.....it happens. We all know that there are furry friends who have done this once or twice. What's important is to assess how much that your pet has eaten. Fabrics can cause intestinal blockages and require surgery for removal. Your safest bet is to bring them in for an x-ray, and we'll have them feeling better in no time!

It's getting real hot out there! *fans self*

Here's what you need to know about keeping your pets cool and how to avoid heat distress:

1.💧 KEEP THEIR WATER BOWLS FILLED AND COOL. They are less likely to drink warm water when it's hot outside, so keep an eye on their water bowls.

2. 🐱🐶BRING OUTDOOR PETS INDOORS. Just how we love the air conditioning, so do our furry friends! We want their body temperatures to stay at a healthy rate. If your pets stay outside for most of the day, allow them to cool off in an area with controlled air settings.

3. 🌳ALLOW THEM TO REST IN A SHADED AREA. If y'all have been enjoying family time outside, make sure that they have plenty of shade to rest in.

If they are showing any signs of heat distress, call your vet or a local animal emergency clinic. If you'd like to know what those signs look like, we'll be posting more on that soon!

The AHAH team is devastated by the loss of Dolly Parton. Dolly absolutely loved her pets! In fact, she had a love for ALL animals. She partnered with several animal rescue organizations, and she was an active participant in the bald eagle sanctuary, Eagle Mountain Sanctuary, at Dollywood.

To honor her memory, we would love for y'all to share photos of pets who were named after her. On September 25th (9 to 5), we will be sharing a compilation video of all of the "Dollys." Share the photos on 'Selfie Shots,' and give us permission to post them on social media.

"Animals bring joy, comfort, and unconditional love...They deserve to be treated like family"
