We have been serving the homeless guinea pigs of the area since 2001 with foster homes across Knoxville. We work closely with several area shelters and veterinarians. We greatly appreciate donations. Gift cards to Kroger, Food City, Earthfare, & Trader Joe’s are always needed as our foster families go through a significant amount of fresh vegetables. We also love gift cards to Agri Feed Pet Supply for pellets and hay.

🐹💕 FOSTER FRIDAY: Fostering FAQs! 💕🐹

Ever thought about fostering guinea pigs but weren’t quite sure what it involves? Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often!

❓ How long would I foster?
It varies! Some piggies may only need a foster home for a short time, while others may stay longer while waiting for their forever family.

❓ Do I have to pay for their medical care?
No! Knoxville Guinea Pig Rescue covers approved veterinary care for our foster piggies.

❓ Do I need guinea pig experience?
Experience is helpful, but you don’t have to be an expert! We’ll help you learn about proper guinea pig care and are available for questions along the way.

❓ What do I need to provide?
Foster families provide a safe, appropriate indoor home, daily care, fresh veggies, hay, pellets, clean bedding, and—of course—lots of love! 🥬❤️

❓ What if I already have guinea pigs?
That’s okay! Foster pigs can be kept separately from your own guinea pigs. We can help you determine the best setup.

❓ Will I have to find the guinea pig an adopter?
Nope! KGPR handles the adoption process. Your job is to give your foster piggie a safe, loving place to stay while we work on finding the right forever home.

❓ What if I fall in love with my foster?
Well… we have heard of something called a “foster fail.” 😂💕 We can talk with you about adoption if you decide your foster has already found their forever home—with you!

🏡 Why foster?

Every foster home gives a guinea pig a safe place to land—and helps us make room to help another piggie in need. Even opening your home temporarily can make a HUGE difference.

💕🐹 ADOPTED! Bubbles found her Simon! 🐹💕

Bubbles was adopted as a friend for Simon, and apparently they didn’t need any time to think it over. It was love at first snuggle! 🥰

The two of them ran straight into the snuggle tunnel together, curled up side by side, and made it pretty clear that this match was meant to be.

Congratulations, Bubbles & Simon! Here’s to lots of veggies, wheeks, and cozy snuggles with your new best friend. 💕🏡

Congratulations to Opal, Lulu, Casper & Sugar, who all found their forever home today with the Mueller family! 🥰

🐹💙 Marty Update! 💙🐹

We’re happy to report that Marty is doing really well. He’s eating and drinking like a champ, and at his last veterinary visit his eyes, nose, teeth, and lungs all looked healthy. Even better, he’s gained 100 grams since May and now weighs 960 grams! 🎉

Marty has finished two rounds of antibiotics, but he’s not quite ready to celebrate the end of treatment yet. He still has a head tilt and some sensitivity on his right side, which tells us his inner ear infection is still hanging on. Ear samples were collected at his last appointment, and he’ll have another recheck on Tuesday. He’ll continue on antibiotics until his X-rays show the infection has cleared.

The best part? Marty doesn’t let any of that slow him down. ❤️ His adorable little head bobs make it look like he’s constantly saying “yes.” We like to think he’s just enthusiastically agreeing to every snack, every cuddle, and every compliment he gets. 😄

Marty also has a new friend, Abby (OVE), and he’s absolutely loving the company. He’s a very happy little piggy, and it’s been wonderful watching his personality shine as he continues to recover.

Thank you to everyone who has been following Marty’s journey and cheering him on. Your kind words and support mean so much. Please keep sending him your good thoughts as we work toward getting this sweet little guy completely healthy!

🐹💕 Foster Friday Feature: Creamsicle, Gelato & Sorbet! 💕🐹

This adorable bonded trio is looking for their forever home together!

🍊 **Creamsicle (born 1/17/26)** is a wonderful mama—patient, caring, friendly, and happy to soak up attention. She has great lap manners and loves people.

🍨 **Gelato (born 6/8/26)** is calm, sweet, and well-behaved. She’s working on her lap and people manners and loves staying close to her mama.

🍧 **Sorbet (born 6/8/26)** is our little independent spirit! She’s full of s***k, personality, and mischief, enjoying time with her family while also doing things her own way.

These three are very attached to each other and will be adopted as a trio. ❤️

Please note: young guinea pigs are generally not the best fit for first-time owners with children under 10. They do best with families ready to provide patience, care, and lots of love.
