A turtle, three baby birds, a car full of chirps, and a whole lot of people working together to help wildlife. 💚

I was grateful to be part of their journey to safety and care. Along the way, I spent some time communicating with each of them, letting them know they were safe, loved, and headed to people who could help.

Sometimes the smallest passengers leave the biggest impact. 🐢🐦

🪶Wildlife Wows: Chimney Swifts!

A few years ago, a friend found these two scruffy little darlings in her fireplace. We found a rehabber for advice, rehab and eventual release of said cutie pies. I was blessed to meet Joanne Thompson, who has since passed. She taught me so much about these unique birds!

Some fun facts for you :
- due to habitat loss, this species is on the "watch" list and populations are declining at 10% per year
- they migrate to Peru every fall and return to TN every spring
- they live in and can hang in large groups
- the parents build a little saucer nest in your chimney with their saliva for glue, in spring and summer only, which means they'll never interfere with your ability to use your fireplace
- sometimes as the babies get heavier, nests collapse and the littles fall down into the fireplace
- parents typically cannot get to them if this happens and they will need help
- rehabbers will help!
- they have sharp spikes in their tail feathers that they press into the wall to help them stay put - these birds are built to hang out on the insides of hollow trees, chimneys, vacant industrial buildings
- they cannot perch or walk around upright like other songbirds, only hang
- you can build pretend freestanding chimneys for them to roost in to help their numbers grow

If you are lucky enough to meet a chimney swift, help them if you can, they need us!!!

Meet our newest addition, Emmylou! 🩷

This sweetest, bestest big puppy now lives at our place with Daisy, Huckleberry and Neyland. We are fostering for the shelter until her spay is done (soon), then we'll make it official!

We are getting to know her personality as she gets more comfortable. And we love her already! She was shy and so submissive, having been a stray. She came in covered in ticks and so skinny.

We will be doing an Embark test soon, and we'll let everyone guess what breeds she may be.

Meet Raven! We've chatted a few times as her human settled in to a new situation with more animals.

Raven recently said she was ready to come out into the communal area. We had also talked to the other kitties before integrating. Raven says she enjoyed the freedom and it was uneventful, as she had hoped.

Prior to us doing sessions, there were some spats. But we can always understand things a bit better after. And then maybe navigate better for our animals.
