❤️ Indiana mosquitoes don’t follow the calendar.

Our weather can swing from freezing to surprisingly warm, and mosquitoes can become active during those warmer stretches. That makes it risky to stop heartworm prevention just because summer is over.

Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes and can affect dogs and cats. The safest approach is year-round prevention so your pet stays protected no matter what Indiana weather decides to do.

Prevention is much easier—and far safer—than treating heartworm disease.
🐾 Don’t give heartworms an off-season. Protect your pet all year long.

Lace up your shoes, grab your favorite four-legged friend, and join the B.A.C.K. Foundation for the Howl-O-Ween Hustle 5K on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Knightstown, Indiana!

This fun, family-friendly 5K is about more than crossing the finish line. Proceeds from the Howl-O-Ween Hustle will help fund a scholarship for an individual in need of a service animal, helping make a life-changing partnership possible for someone in our community.

Runners, walkers, families, and pets are all welcome! And because it’s almost Halloween, we encourage you—and your four-legged companions—to come dressed for the occasion. We’ll have a costume contest with prizes as part of the festivities.

Whether you run, walk, or howl your way through the 5K, come spend the morning with us while supporting a great cause.

The Howl-O-Ween Hustle 5K is on Saturday October 24, 2026.

🐾 Bad breath isn’t always normal.

Persistent bad breath in dogs and cats is often caused by dental disease, but it can also be linked to tooth infections, oral disease, kidney disease, diabetes, or other underlying health problems.
Cats are especially good at hiding dental pain, so bad breath may be one of the first signs something is wrong.

If your pet’s breath has gotten noticeably worse, let us take a look.

🐾 Is your pet just getting older… or is something changing?
As pets age, it’s normal for them to slow down a little. But changes like sleeping more, struggling with stairs, losing weight, drinking more water, having accidents, or becoming less playful can sometimes be signs of an underlying health problem.
At Heartland Vet Care, we can help senior pets stay comfortable, active, and feeling their best with wellness exams, bloodwork, dental care, pain and mobility management, nutrition guidance, and individualized treatment plans.
Aging doesn’t have to mean simply accepting that your pet “is getting old.” Sometimes small changes can make a big difference in their comfort and quality of life.
❤️ Our goal is more good days with the pets you love.

Routine bloodwork can be helpful even when your pet seems perfectly healthy, especially as they get older.

Screening can sometimes uncover changes involving the kidneys, liver, blood cells, or metabolism before obvious symptoms appear. It doesn’t catch everything, but it can give us a useful baseline and help us spot changes over time.

For aging pets, that information can be an important part of staying ahead of potential health concerns.

🇺🇸 We will never forget.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families whose lives were changed forever.
We also remember the extraordinary courage that emerged from such unimaginable tragedy; the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, service members, volunteers, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger when every instinct would have told them to run away.

And we remember the remarkable search-and-rescue dogs and their handlers who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero and the Pentagon. These K9 teams climbed through unstable rubble, searched for survivors, helped recover the fallen, and provided comfort in the darkest of circumstances.

Their bravery, loyalty, and willingness to serve alongside their human partners remain a powerful reminder of the very best in people and in the animals who stand beside us.
Today we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the heroes, and reflect on the courage, compassion, and unity shown in the days that followed.

September 11, 2001. Never forgotten. 🇺🇸🐾
