TIP: Want to catch a horse? Act like a horse. Sounds humorous, but it works.

Let the horse settle and start grazing. Then walk slowly parallel to the horse from behind and a few feet away. Bend over periodically and pull up a few blades of grass, then move on. Zig zag a little parallel to the horse, going closer than further. Stop once in awhile and lean over and pull up some grass again. Work your way closer to the horse, then stand up, but the rope around its neck, and put the halter on. Done.

My natural horsemanship techniques and exercises have done amazing make-overs on horses that owners and their trainers have given up on.

One session, and you'll be amazed. Only cost during the month of August ​is a donation to the farm.

To speed up the process of catching an apprehensive horse, be more like a horse than a stalking predator. Two points:

(1) Horses are prey animals. P​art of their defense is being quiet and less noticable. No talking.

(2) ​Horses graze when they are relaxed and comfortable with their surroundings. Be part of it's herd, even if inly one. Pretend you're grazing by bending over and picking grass, and wander around.

Work your way around to the horse, and once along side, stand up slowly and put the halter on.

I used this natural technique to help a man a few blocks away catch his horse that had been wandering their neighborhood for a couple days enjoying the nicely manicured lawns. . No one had been able to get near the horse. Everyone gave up trying. ​It only took me a few minutes.
