😱🐾 “Oh no… my dog just ate [insert mystery gross thing]!”

Sound familiar? Here’s your emergency vet-approved game plan:

1️⃣ Call us immediately! Time is everything when toxins are involved.
2️⃣ Know what they ate: Packaging, plant name, or leftover chocolate stash. Those details help us act fast.
3️⃣ Don’t DIY it: No inducing vomiting unless a vet says so.
4️⃣ Stay calm & safe: Keep your pet contained and comfy while help is on the way.

Life changes but you can help your pet stay safe and stress-free. New baby, new home, or new routine can be overwhelming for pets, and stress can sometimes lead to accidents or injuries.

👶 Start early: Introduce new sounds, sights, and routines gradually.
🏠 Keep their space safe: A cozy retreat helps reduce stress.
💞 Reinforce love: Extra praise, cuddles, and attention go a long way.
🐶 Practice first: Short “training” sessions around new gear or routines prevent surprises.

Preparation keeps tails wagging and prevents emergencies before they happen!

Why does my dog bark, howl, or act out when I leave—and when is it an emergency? Separation anxiety is common, but in some cases it can escalate to urgent situations:
Intense, nonstop howling or destructive behavior that leads to injuries.

Self-harm, like biting or scratching paws or skin.

Extreme panic causing vomiting, diarrhea, or collapse.

💡 Tips to help prevent emergencies:
🧩 Puzzle toys or long-lasting treats before departures
📺 Background noise like TV, white noise, or calm music
🐕‍🦺 Short departures gradually built up over time

If your dog’s anxiety is severe, call us for guidance. Sometimes medications or behavioral interventions are needed to keep your pet safe.

Today happens to be Hairball Awareness Day! 🐱

That unmistakable “hurk hurk hurk” sound that sends every cat parent sprinting with a paper towel. 🧻😅 But if your cat is throwing up frequently, or you notice:
🚫 Loss of appetite
💩 Diarrhea
🥴 Lethargy
💧 Or dehydration
Please call us! Chronic vomiting can point to allergies, parasites, or even more serious tummy troubles.

Fleas and ticks: tiny pests, BIG emergencies. These parasites don’t just itch. They can carry serious diseases like Lyme, ehrlichiosis, or anemia that sometimes require urgent care.

Even indoor pets aren’t completely safe. Ticks and fleas can sneak in and cause rapid, dangerous complications. Prevention is always better than an emergency visit.
💊 Oral meds: Easy, effective, usually monthly.
💧 Topical treatments: Form a protective shield on the skin.
🛡️ Collars: Long-lasting, convenient, perfect for pets who forget meds.

Talk to our team at Wake Veterinary Medical Center about the best parasite protection plan for your pet.

It’s not just about weight; it can be a matter of life or emergency care. Overfeeding or underfeeding can lead to serious health issues:
🐶 Dogs: Too much can cause obesity, diabetes, or pancreatitis (a painful, sometimes life-threatening condition). Too little? Malnutrition, weakness, or even organ problems.
🐱 Cats: Extra nibbles can add up to obesity and diabetes, while insufficient food can trigger hepatic lipidosis, a serious liver emergency.
💡 Tip: Follow feeding guidelines, then adjust with your vet based on your pet’s body condition. You should be able to feel ribs, but not see them.

Keeping portions right and treats measured helps prevent emergencies and keeps tails wagging safely!
