Things I have to coach and teach my dogs to do -

Not steal off the table
Walk politely on leash
Not start a war because a butterfly had the audacity to fly past the window
Play nicely with dogs of all sizes and styles of play
Give me things even if they think it’s the best treasure ever
Come back to me when I need them to

Things I have never taught them to do but they excel at anyway -

Stopping suddenly directly in front of me on a trail.
Getting as filthy as possible immediately after being groomed
Taking a brand new “chew proof” toy and murdering it within 5 minutes
Acting like they’ve never had food
Starting to limp or vomit right before a trip we have planned
Find the loudest squeaker possible to play with at my feet while I’m on a life changing zoom call
