🐾🌎 **World Rabies Day — September 28** 🌎🐾

Rabies may seem like a disease of the past, but it’s still very real—and **once clinical signs appear, rabies is almost always fatal.** The good news? It’s also **almost entirely preventable.** ❤️

💉 **Vaccination saves lives.**

Keeping your pets current on their rabies vaccination protects more than just them. It helps protect **your family, your neighbors, and our entire community.**

A few important reminders:

🐶 Dogs and cats should stay current on their legally required rabies vaccinations.
🦇 Avoid contact with wildlife, especially bats, raccoons, foxes, and other wild mammals.
🚫 Never attempt to handle a wild animal that appears sick, injured, or unusually friendly.
☎️ If your pet has been exposed to a potentially rabid animal, contact us and your local animal control/public health authorities right away.

And remember: **even indoor pets can encounter rabies.** A bat getting into your home is all it takes.

This World Rabies Day, take a moment to make sure your pets' rabies vaccinations are up to date. A simple vaccine can make an enormous difference. 💙

**Prevent rabies. Protect your pets. Protect your community.**

🐰💗 **Happy National Rabbit Day!** 💗🐰

Today we’re celebrating some of the cutest—and sometimes most misunderstood—members of the family! 🥕🐇

Rabbits may be small, but they have some **big-time healthcare needs**. Unlike dogs and cats, rabbits are prey animals and can be very good at hiding signs that something is wrong. That means regular veterinary care is especially important!

Here are a few rabbit-care reminders:

🥬 **Hay should make up the majority of their diet.** Unlimited grass hay is essential for healthy teeth and digestion.

🦷 **Those teeth never stop growing!** Proper nutrition and regular veterinary checks help prevent painful dental problems.

💩 **Pay attention to the p**p!** Changes in appetite or f***l production can be an early sign that something is wrong—and with rabbits, it can become an emergency quickly.

🏠 **Bunny-proofing is a must!** Electrical cords, toxic plants, and other household hazards can be dangerous for curious rabbits.

❤️ **Rabbits need veterinary care, too!** Regular wellness examinations can help catch problems before they become serious.

And, of course, rabbits need plenty of enrichment, exercise, appropriate companionship, and lots of love. 🥰

So today, give your bunny an extra treat, an extra head scratch, and maybe remind them that **they're lucky to have you.** 😉

🐰 **Happy National Rabbit Day from all of us at Bellalago Veterinary Hospital!**

🐾💙 **Animal Pain Awareness Month** 💙🐾

**They can't tell us where it hurts. But they can tell us something is wrong.**

Animals experience pain just like we do—but they don't always show it in obvious ways. In fact, many pets instinctively hide signs of pain, which can make it difficult for their families to recognize when they need help.

Sometimes, pain looks like:

🐶 Being less interested in walks, play, or jumping
🐱 Hiding more than usual or becoming less social
🐾 Difficulty getting up, climbing stairs, or moving around
🍽️ Changes in appetite or eating habits
😴 Sleeping more or seeming unusually tired
💙 Changes in grooming or litter box habits
😔 Restlessness, anxiety, irritability, or unexpected aggression
🦴 Limping, stiffness, or changes in the way they move
👀 Simply seeming **“not like themselves.”**

One important thing to remember: **pain is not a normal part of aging.**

Whether your pet is dealing with arthritis, dental disease, an injury, surgery, cancer, or another painful condition, there are often ways we can help improve their comfort and quality of life.

If you've noticed a change in your pet's behavior or mobility, don't wait for the signs to become severe. **Your pet may be telling you they're hurting—you just have to know how to listen.**

This Animal Pain Awareness Month, let's make sure our pets don't suffer in silence. ❤️🐾

**Because every pet deserves to live as comfortably and pain-free as possible.**
