It saddens us to report we will be helping our Allison cross over this afternoon after the devastating confirmation of inoperable cancerous growth on her face. We have given her lots of love and treats since her diagnosis making her as comfortable as possible. Our lifetime commitment to all pets that come to our program means we care for them to the end. Sometimes adoption isn’t final as much as we all want it to be, and we get our pets back after years of being placed. We will always do what we can to support our adopters and to take our pets back, if necessary. This does make operating difficult but we couldn’t call ourselves a rescue if we did not commit like this.
Allison came to us with her kittens (all found homes quickly) from animal control in 2019. She was adopted out to a wonderful home but after several years, circumstances were no longer safe, and she came back to us last year. We gave her time to adjust since she was very unhappy with the change. After she was back to her loving self, we noticed her strange eye seemed to be fluctuating in appearance. After a vet assessment, it was deemed to get the eye removed. While she was recovering, we noticed a growth. Another vet visit, and it was recommended to get an expensive biopsy. After that, the growth progressed rapidly and the results confirmed cancer.
Unfortunately, bad days like this must be taken with the good. Ensuring our pets stay as comfortable as possible through their life and during their end moments is the best we can do for them.
