Today, someone compared those of us who spay and neuter dogs to dogfighters and criminalsโ€”and called us inhumane and ugly for taking away a dogโ€™s โ€œability to breedโ€.

๐‹๐„๐“โ€™๐’ ๐๐„ ๐‚๐‹๐„๐€๐‘: Responsible spaying and neutering is NOTHING like abusing or fighting an animal.

Dogfighters hurt animals for entertainment and profit. We work with licensed veterinary professionals to prevent unwanted litters, reduce suffering and keep dogs and cats from ending up abandoned, neglected or euthanized in overcrowded shelters.

This kind of ignorance and bad information is part of the reason our shelters are overflowing. One unaltered dog or cat can produce litter after litterโ€”and there are simply not enough responsible homes for them all.

We recently asked for gently used crates for our animal transports, and once again, our community showed up! ๐Ÿ’™

When we send a dog or cat to rescue, ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บโ€”and very rarely does it come back. That means weโ€™re constantly working to replace crates for the next group of animals waiting for their chance.

Friends of Carolina Animals is proud to work with SE Coast SC Rescue Collaboration to make these lifesaving transports possible. Together we move more animals out of shelters and into the hands of rescues where brand-new lives are waiting! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

This past week, we received several donated cratesโ€”including one with an ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ-๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ helper during delivery! ๐Ÿฅฐ

A federal grand jury has indicted seven Chesterfield County men following a major dogfighting investigationโ€”the largest single-property dog seizure in South Carolina history.

According to the federal indictment, the defendants allegedly bred, housed and trained pit bull-type dogs for fighting between September 2019 and July 2026. Investigators reportedly found more than 100 dogs, treadmills, bite sticks, weighted collars, heavy chains, breeding stands, pedigrees, animal medicationsโ€”and even carpeting containing canine blood.

At one property alone, approximately 77 dogs were seized.

๐ŸคฌOne of the defendants is identified as a former Chesterfield County sheriffโ€™s deputy.

The seven men charged are Lonnie Shane Gaskins, Terry James Gaskins, Shamar Oโ€™Ryan Sutton, Avery Robinson, Derwayne Terry Miller Sr., Derwayne Terry Miller Jr. and Kevin Knotts.

ANOTHER SPAY & NEUTER CLINIC

Today, dogs and cats from across ๐†๐„๐Ž๐‘๐†๐„๐“๐Ž๐–๐ ๐‚๐Ž๐”๐๐“๐˜ are being spayed and neutered! Our volunteers are checking everyone in & clinic staff is making sure each animal has what they need.

Todayโ€™s clinic was made possible by our event ๐‘ท๐‘ฐ๐‘ช๐‘ฒ๐‘ฐ๐‘ตโ€™ ๐‘ญ๐‘ถ๐‘น ๐‘ป๐‘ฏ๐‘ฌ ๐‘ท๐‘ผ๐‘ท๐‘บ at Winyah Blueberry Farmโ€”and by the incredible Georgetown County community that came together to support it.
