Miss Minnie hand strip part 2. We’re getting there! Her jacket is looking better and better every time. Luna was dying to have Miss Minnie’s attention that whole groom, too!

In an attempt to work through our backlog of appointment requests we are adding in extra availability 8/10-8/12. If you are still needing an appointment please text 838-836-5016 to book for one of those days. If you are going to need an appointment from end of August onward we HIGHLY recommend booking ahead of time.

If you have not received a text back about booking an appointment yet, please reach out one more time to 838-836-5016. There were over 900 texts from my time out of shop and at this point I do think a few of you may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

I want to thank everyone for your patience as we work our way through the waitlist we incurred during my injury. If you haven't been contacted yet, you will be by the end of this week with some available time slots. Thank you everyone for your patience and kind words, I know it's frustrating not being able to get the kiddos in when you need them done - especially in this heat.

For those of you at a point where you are unable to wait for an appointment here, I would highly recommend reaching out to Jessica at What The Fluff in Saugerties and checking in about availability there.

I cannot express how much we appreciate all of you, truly.

ATTENTION ALL CLIENTS: many of you know we have been having ongoing challenges in-shop between plumbing, cooling, and my injury. Many appointments need to be rescheduled. If you have a current appt between 7/25-7/28 (grooming and training) it is cancelled. We will resume regular schedule 7/29. If you need to book a grooming or reschedule a training session that has been cancelled please text me at 838-836-5016. I thank you all for your continued patience as I start the rescheduling process; it may take me a few days to get back to everyone as there is a HUGE backup right now after a month of various issues.

As many of you know, we have been having ongoing a/c cooling/overheating issues and plumbing issues with the building. Unfortunately, in the process of coordinating with the building owner and fixing these issues I slipped and fell down the basement stairs. Currently and thankfully, I haven’t broken anything. But! I’m pretty banged up and we will be closed for at least the next few days.

I appreciate everyone’s patience and check-ins over the past few days and I genuinely cannot wait to be back to work and seeing you all & your dogs soon.

Let's talk about how we train the treadmill. Because this is an electric walking pad, I do not to use any kind of harness hookup on this machine. I want this experience to be fun and voluntary, and I want her to be able to disengage whenever she needs to. So no hookup, no leash pressure - just shaping the skill over time. I very very rarely give food rewards ON the walking pad, instead rewarding when the skill sequence is complete.

How did we start? I marked and rewarded for any interest in the pad and shaped the skill until she was walking on it. When she needed a little more direction we used a direct lure, but I try to take a little extra time on this one and not directly lure it. I don't directly lure this right from her nose because I want to make sure she's paying attention to her safety - her body and her feet - more than the reward, especially in the beginning. So at this point, Luna is receiving reward when the entire sequence is over (on pad, walking, off pad, reward). In the beginning she was rewarded for that sequence no matter how short or long the duration was.

You can see as I'm pushing for duration in this video (longer times on the treadmill) we use variations of hand targeting and reward is visible and ready to go. I'm placing my body in a different spot or moving depending on her placement on the pad. She's been working this long enough to know to pay attention to her body and you can see her correct herself a few times in this video. I'm trying to make this a rewarding activity followed by a food reward because I want her to be super motivated to do this skill. Most of all, I want it to be fun, safe, voluntary activity!
