The lead mare isn’t necessarily the biggest or the strongest horse in the herd. She’s the one the others trust to lead. At 29 years old, watching Maggie step into that role within our herd feels like witnessing a lifetime of wisdom finally being given the respect it deserves.

Wow. A very big little moment happened at the sanctuary today. 🥹 For the first time in FIVE years, Morty belly-flopped for Aaron!!

This might not look particularly monumental if you don’t know their history, but Morty has never trusted Aaron. Not from the day he arrived at Rewild. In fact, their relationship has historically involved significantly more biting than belly rubs, and Aaron has the scars to prove it. 👀

But apparently today was the day Morty finally decided, alright, maybe this guy isn’t so bad after all.

These are the moments that make sanctuary work so special. Healing doesn’t always happen quickly, and trust certainly doesn’t happen on our timeline. I guess sometimes it takes five years!!!

Our hay barn is EMPTY, which means it’s officially time to stock up for fall! 🌾🐴 We’re raising $2,500 to purchase 6 tons of hay to keep our rescue crew happily munching through the autumn months. Every single dollar gets us closer. $5 helps. $10 helps. It ALL adds up. 🤍

It was hoof trimming day at the sanctuary! 🤗

Unfortunately for our incredible farrier Harmony Farrier Service Nana Mags decided to use her entire body as a table for her lunch drool 😂

Maggie’s feet are looking SO good after a couple of trims. Her beautiful coat that was covered in scabs and sores is now buttery soft and shining. We’re all so excited to see how she fills in for winter - will she grow a thick long wild horse winter coat?!
