KaleDog A 3rd Generation desert homestead, Kaledog specializes in gardening, indoor hydroponics, graphic design, photography and arts & crafts.

KaleDog Homestead offers seeds, plants, gardening supplies, decor and more via booths at local merchant malls. KaleDog Press is a side project, as a semi-retired graphic designer, I have been working with cut vinyl and custom apparel for over 25 years. As the full time caregiver for a disabled veteran, I have learned to appreciate humor and sarcasm in dealing with our stressful world and have star

ted up this project as a creative outlet that just might spread a little joy in the world. The items that will be offered utilize a blend of commercially sourced designs as well as fully original artwork and for transparency, occasional AI elements. All of the finished products are crafted in house, locally. DTFs available for purchase for home use may be either custom designs and/or commercial overstock. Currently I am not taking custom orders or clients but I do welcome suggestions. A dedicated storefront will not be opening at this time, but I will be partnering with local businesses and events where possible.

Just a Reminder:

For Kingman we are now approximately 90 - 100 days until the first hard frost (mid November). So what does that mean for your garden?

Can you still grow warm season crops from seeds? Only extremely fast growing varieties like some summer squashes that hit harvest in under 60 days. While we don't freeze until late, the temperature difference from day to night can really effect ripening for plants like cucumbers and tomatoes that like a night temperature above 60 degrees. By mid October our night temperatures can easily drop into the 40s.

What about cool season crops? Snap Peas and similar cool season crops can handle night temperatures down to 45 degrees but dislike day temperatures over 85. If you plant on an East exposure with good afternoon protection it is possible to get in a fall crop.

What about greens? A lot of tender lettuces and greens actually get stressed out at temperatures below 50 degrees and may bolt on you but it is worth starting them now in a sheltered location for fast growing harvests. Hardy plants like radish, turnip, beets, winter cabbage, certain collard greens and kales can take a light frost and grow straight through the winter, providing extremely early greens and spring root harvests, especially if they are well mulched or if you use row covers for the occasional hard freeze nights. these hardier greens can be started in late August through September for best results, allowing them to get well established before the temperatures really drop. Watch early plantings very carefully for aphid infestations that may take advantage of residual heat stress to attack your greens.

Seed Co-Op restock today at our booth in Alice's Market Place yay!

Both types of pak choi have been refilled the tall white stem which is your traditional pak choi with the thick juicy center stem, and the purple Da Hong Summer which creates a smaller, leafier plant. Both are well suited to planting as soon as temps stay under 100 degrees they also grow well indoors under lights or hydroponically.

We also have a new variety today, fresh into the Co-op are Vates collared greens. This popular variety has a looser head, big tender leaves, and a better frost tolerance than some other varieties which means we can plant them in late September here to try and avoid issues with aphids and grow them well into winter without serious issues, extending harvest of fresh vegetables for your household. They also grow extremely well hydroponically and make great microgreens or baby greens so an all-around good addition to the kitchen garden.

Get yours today for just $2 a pack. The marketplace is open Wednesday through Saturday and located right behind the bowling alley in Kingman just north of Airway off of Stockton Hill or Western avenue, your choice. Credit cards are also accepted.

14 day old baby greens, grown on coconut coir with a pinch of organic fertilizer, no drainage, under LEDs with no natural light. Yes it is possible to grow fresh greens indoors in AZ in the summer. These will be ready to start harvesting outer leaves in about 2 weeks and will continue to produce for about 3 months. At this age you can also remove some of the plants to grow hydroponically or repot for hardening off outdoors. If you would like a closer look, I left this tray at the seed co-op in Alice's Market Place today, it will be there 10 to 5 Saturday as well before I take it home and put it back in its bookshelf. Marketplace is located in the building right behind the bowling alley off Stockton Hill Road in Kingman
