This past week, our team had the incredible opportunity to attend an 8-hour Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Emergency First Aid course specifically for working dogs. It was an intensive, hands-on day packed with practical skills that could truly make the difference in critical situations out in the field.

We covered a wide range of life-saving topics including:
• Proper bandaging and wound packing
• Applying tourniquets
• Managing fractures
• Subcutaneous fluids and IV administration
• Treating pneumothorax and chest wounds
• Handling bloat (GDV)
• CPR for canines

The best part was running multiple realistic scenarios in small groups. We practiced applying what we learned under time pressure, just like we might experience during actual operations. It was challenging, eye-opening, and incredibly valuable.

As handlers and supporters of working dogs, having this specialized trauma care knowledge gives us much greater confidence and capability. Working dogs put themselves in harm’s way every day — whether in law enforcement, search and rescue, military, or security roles. Being equipped to control bleeding, stabilize injuries, manage shock, and keep them alive until they can reach advanced veterinary care is something we take very seriously.

This training reinforces our commitment to giving these incredible animals the best possible care, both on and off duty. Their safety and wellbeing directly impact mission success and our ability to protect our communities.

Huge thank you to the instructors for delivering such a high-quality, practical course. We left feeling far more prepared for whatever the field throws at us and our four-legged partners.

Pet First Aid Kits: Be Prepared for Your Dog's Emergencies 🐶❤️

Accidents and health scares can happen in the blink of an eye—whether it's a cut from rough play, a bee sting on a hike, vomiting after getting into something they shouldn't, or a more serious injury at home. As dog owners, we can't always prevent every mishap, but we can be ready to respond quickly. That's where a well-stocked pet first aid kit comes in. Having the right supplies on hand can stabilize your pup, reduce pain or bleeding, and buy precious time until you reach the vet. It could even save their life.

Why Every Dog Owner Needs One
✅Emergencies don't wait: Minor issues can escalate fast, especially when vets aren't immediately available (nights, weekends, travel, or disasters).
✅Peace of mind: Knowing you're prepared lets you focus on helping your dog instead of scrambling for supplies.
✅For all situations: Keep one at home, one in the car, and a portable version for walks or trips.

What's in a Good Dog First Aid Kit?
Here's a solid list of essentials compiled from reliable sources (always check with your vet for specifics tailored to your dog):
✅Bandaging supplies: Absorbent gauze pads, gauze rolls, conforming bandages, non-stick dressings, adhesive tape.
✅Wound care: Saline/wound wash or sterile water, cotton balls/swabs, pet-safe antiseptic wipes or ointment (like povidone-iodine), antibiotic ointment.
✅Tools: Blunt-ended scissors, tweezers, disposable gloves, digital thermometer.
✅Other basics: Styptic powder (for nail bleeds), eye wash, thick towel or blanket, instant cold pack, muzzle (if needed for safety), Elizabethan collar (to prevent licking).
✅Medications & info: Benadryl (for allergies—vet-approved dosage), hydrogen peroxide (for inducing vomiting—only under vet guidance), emergency contact card with your vet's number, nearest emergency clinic, and poison hotline.
✅Extras: Flashlight, pen/paper, leash, and any dog-specific meds your pup takes regularly.

Store everything in a waterproof, easy-to-grab container and check expiration dates periodically.

🐾 Finding good places to train your dog can be tough, especially when your town isn’t very pet-friendly. But real-world training is so important if we want our dogs to have solid manners and be calm, well-behaved companions!

Dogs don’t generalize well. Just because they have a perfect “sit-stay” in your living room doesn’t mean they’ll hold it when people, bikes, runners, or other dogs are moving around them.

That’s why we need to get out and practice in different environments.
✅ Practicing sit-stays and down-stays off to the side of walking paths
✅ Working on focus while people and bikes go by
✅ Building impulse control while watching other dogs on walks

The goal is progress, not perfection. We train near distractions so our dogs learn to stay polite even when life gets exciting.
But here’s the key: We can train in public spaces AND be respectful of everyone around us.
That means:
• Choosing spots where you’re not blocking the path
• Keeping sessions short and low-key
• Cleaning up after your dog (always!)
• Giving other people and dogs plenty of space
• Being mindful that not everyone wants to say hi to your dog

Structured walks and obedience practice aren’t just about teaching commands — they’re about raising responsible dogs and responsible owners. When we do this right, we show our communities that well-trained dogs belong in public spaces.

The health and safety of every dog in our care is our top priority. That's why we thoroughly verify vaccine records and require f***l examinations for all participants in our group training classes.

We’ve recently noticed an increase in new clients coming to us from other trainers and facilities in the area. Unfortunately, many of these dogs arrived with incomplete or outdated vaccinations and f***l tests showing multiple parasites. This is very concerning, especially since some local trainers have no health requirements whatsoever for their classes.

To better protect all the dogs who train with us, we are updating our policy:

- New clients must provide a f***l exam completed within one month of starting classes.
- Positive results will require veterinary treatment and a follow-up negative retest before the dog can begin group training.
- We continue to require proof of current vaccinations (including DHPP, Rabies, and Bordetella) prior to starting. Recrods must be from a veterinarian and have due dates.

Why do we verify vaccines and require f***l exams?
These simple steps prevent the spread of contagious diseases and intestinal parasites that can spread quickly in a group training environment. A single infected dog can put dozens of others at risk.

Here are 5 important reasons to invest in professional dog training classes:

This handsome 9-month-old bully breed is crushing it in our Beginners Group Class! 🐶💪 He’s such a smart, quick learner — it’s been awesome watching him pick up new skills so fast and build confidence every session.

Group classes offer the perfect mix of structured training, real-life distractions, and safe socialization with other dogs. For smart, energetic dogs like Bruce, this environment helps channel their drive into great manners and reliability.

In our Beginner Group Class (which progresses into basic/intermediate obedience), we’re working on these 5 key areas:

2. Reliable Recall – Coming when called in group settings with other dogs around

This sweet 6-month-old Poodle has been doing great in our 6-Week Puppy Group Class! 🐩✨
Group classes are a wonderful way for puppies to learn important skills while getting valuable socialization with other dogs and people in a structured, safe environment. Pippa is learning how to navigate the world with better manners and confidence every week.
In our Beginner Puppy Group Class, we focus on these 5 key puppy behaviors:

This adorable, energetic 7-month-old Labradoodle has been making fantastic progress in our private training lessons! 🐾
Taffy is a perfect example of why private lessons are so powerful for both puppies and their humans. In a one-on-one setting, we can give individualized attention to both the dog and the handler — something that’s hard to achieve in group classes.

🐾 Meet Mater! This adorable young pup just checked in for our 2-week Board & Train program! 🎉

His dad recently moved to town and wanted to give him the best start in his new home by building rock-solid obedience skills and confidence. We’re focusing on socialization with people and other dogs, plus strengthening key commands like Sit, Stay, Place, and Watch — all with added duration and real-world distractions.

Every day Mater is getting 3-5 training sessions in different locations around town, plus plenty of structured walks (20-40 minutes each) to keep him happy, exercised, and learning in the real world!

We’re already seeing great progress and can’t wait to show his dad just how far he’s come in two weeks!
