There is no way to prepare yourself for the hardest part of the job. It isn't you missing your appointment with no communication. It isn't cleaning up the mess or dealing with difficult dogs. It isn't losing clients over small mistakes or who just do not like my style of grooming. The hardest part of the job isn't the physical demand and the wear and tear on my body, its not the aches and pains. It isn't missed lunches, outings or working 7 days straight at times. The absolute hardest part of this job is losing friends. It is watching your pet get old, watching them lose balance, not be able to stand while I work on them or the sadness in their eyes when they know its the last time they get to see me. It is the heartbreak of knowing I could not be with them in their last breath, their last moments to make sure they knew they were more then loved.
This year has been exceptionally hard when it comes to losing some of my best friends. As more cross over, filling their spot has become emotionally harder and harder. Just know, while your pet is here in my care, they are my family, my friend, my dog for that moment in time. They are treated as if they are part of my pack.
