👀 New Finds at The AWL Thrift Shop
September 3 - 5

September is here, and so are some beautiful new finds, along with plenty of fall decor! 🍂

Furniture lovers will want to check out a Lee Jofa down-filled loveseat with brass nailhead trim and exposed feet with casters, a wood deacon-style bench with an upholstered seat, and a handsome pine five-drawer tall dresser.

One particularly clever find is a round oak table with a white base that opens to reveal a hidden leaf, transforming it into an oval table. It comes with four matching Windsor side chairs. There’s also a large drop-leaf table with seven chairs, including one armchair.

You’ll also find a pine shadow-box end table, a painted blue side table with a wood top, a lightweight two-tier end table, a paper-shade floor lamp, and a striking large portrait of a Victorian gentleman.

And if you’re ready for a change of season, lots of fall decor is making its way into the shop. 🍁

🐾 Katie’s veterinary journey has officially begun! ❤️

We’re so excited to share that Katie Baker has officially started veterinary school at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine!

Earlier this summer, we shared Katie’s story and AWL’s commitment to supporting her veterinary education. Now, we get to celebrate this exciting milestone as she begins the journey toward becoming a veterinarian.

Congratulations, Katie! Everyone at the Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck is cheering you on and wishing you an amazing first year! 🐾❤️

HAPPY UPDATE; LEXI HAS BEEN ADOPTED. We are thrilled for her. Many thanks to the adopters. We wish you much joy with Lexi. Lexi is 20 weeks old and blooming beautifully. Lexi had quite a week for new experiences, attending the Heathsville Farmers Market trying the kiddie pool out in the play yard at the shelter and having play dates with another shelter pup, Carolina, who is 9 months old. Lexi is about 40 pounds. We believe her to be a Cane Corso/ Retriever mix. Lexi has two sisters at the shelter as well, Cassie and Sam! Lexi has come so far, feeling joy with these new experiences and enjoying affection and engaging with people. Next on Lexi's list of things to do- find a human lovematch and forever home!

Tiles & Cards: A Mah Jongg & Bridge Luncheon Fundraiser 🀄♥️

Join AWL for a fun afternoon of Mah Jongg and bridge while helping support animals and pet families throughout the Northern Neck.

👀 New Finds at The AWL Thrift Shop
August 27 - 29

This week’s finds include some unusual treasures, beautiful collectibles, and the first signs that fall is on its way! 🍂

One especially remarkable arrival is a Regina Victorian metal disc player music box with a dozen discs. This piece is also listed on Facebook Marketplace, so it may find a new home before the shop opens Thursday.

You’ll also find a gorgeous hand-painted jardiniere with koi painted on the interior, a vintage carved three-panel teak screen featuring scenes of India, a camelback domed trunk with an embossed finish, a Star railroad lantern, and four lovely small hooked rugs featuring flowers and birds.

More finds include an assortment of beautiful seashells, a two-gallon crock, a wicker tray with fold-out legs that makes a nifty little bar table, a Big Joe bean bag chair, a pink velvet tall stool, a piano stool, a Coleman camp lantern, several large metal tubs, a sturdy fold-up beach chair, and a framed tapestry depicting a maiden and unicorn.

For the table, look for Aynsley Pembroke teacups, a lovely set of formal floral china, and a basket filled with faux fruit. You’ll also find several large floral arrangements donated by Booth’s Furniture.

And fall is beginning to arrive at the shop! 🍁 Look for lots of fall decor, a vintage rake decorated for the season, the beginnings of our Halloween goodies, and plenty of fall clothing for the whole family.

And, as always, there’s much more waiting to be discovered!

When it comes to looks, Weiler has it all going on. Yes, he is exceedingly handsome. Quite the stunner. A wonderful companion needs to be more than good looks. Weiler is working on being his best self, particularly how to settle himself. The shelter environment can be a challenge for dogs. Imagine having so many housemates and new roommates moving in constantly with quirks and chatting! Weiler has grown quite fond of some of his kennel next door neighbors- especially the " ladies" and smaller dogs. Weiler absolutely loves being in the play yard, his time there running and chasing kongs. He also has a grand time in the kiddie pool! Weiler is 60 punds of the aforementioned handsomeness and about 2 years old. He has been neutered through the generosity of Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck Thank you A.W.L! Weiler does best when he is knows what is expected of him. Weiler is looking for a forever home with a consistent, calm human. He will return the love by learning quickly and becoming a loyal friend.
Northumberland County Animal Shelter is open to meet our cats and dogs on Monday 11:00 to 3:00; Thursday 11:00 to 3:00 and Saturday 11:00 to 2:00. We are happy to introduce them other times, by appointment, by calling the shelter at 804 580 6156. Scheduling an appointment is a fabulous way to meet some of our dogs or cats. You can mention when you call for an appointment, the personality and energy level of your ideal companion and get some one on one attention when you arrive!
