Active 2001-2021

All dogs available for adoption through DRPS live with us in our home, we do not use foster homes for any of our dogs as we get to know them best when we are with them day to day. This also makes it easy to schedule meetings with potential adopters. We also assist Dachshund owners properly rehome dogs they are able to keep in their care until the right home comes along. All rescue related expenses are paid for out of Anne's own pocket. Though the adoption fee is $350, we actually spend more than that vetting most of the dogs that come to us. Funds are raised through events, The Hot Dog sales, boarding and clinics; our WePay donations, Facebook auctions, and Amazon Wishlist are all new additions this past year. The majority of the dogs we get into rescue are due to 1. death or owner going to a nursing home 3. divorce or breakups, 4. Dachshund not good with small child or baby

While we do occasionally take in dogs from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York State we are just three people so we cannot coordinate "pulling" of shelter Dachshunds outside of the area; if you know of a Dachshund in a shelter or in need of a new home outside of Connecticut please contact a Dachshund rescue that uses foster homes as they have a wide spread volunteer group. Just because our fosters live with us happily before they go to their forever homes this does not mean they are not "needy enough" as we have heard some people say- if our adoptable dogs are overlooked for this reason this may leave us unable to help other dogs. If you are interested in adopting from us please fill out the application to get pre-approved. Ideal adopters have a fenced in yard, have Dachshund experience, do not have small children, do not plan on having children in the future if they do not already have children, live in Connecticut (nearby out of state adoptions are considered if you come meet us and the dogs, and have good references), have a flexible work schedule or are semi retired (we do not want the dog sleeping 8 hours a night, then left home alone for 8 hours during the day- thats 16 hours!). We do not adopt to anyone who smokes inside the home as it is very destructive to a small dog's health.

UPDATE 10/20: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17q3fc2f9o/?mibextid=wwXIfr

UPDATE 10/19: We have received an overwhelming number of calls, messages, emails and comments to help this senior boy. At this time, we believe we have several fantastic homes lined up, and we are coordinating a meet & greet for tomorrow. We will keep everyone updated.

Those of you who reached out to help, we ask that you consider another dog at Crossed Paws. We have so many dogs that are patiently (and some impatiently) waiting to find adopters. Some of you would make amazing adopters for them too!

We will provide an update in the next day or two! Thank you all 🐾❀️

This sweet boy lost his mom, she was elderly and passed away. HE IS 13 YEARS OLD, has almost no teeth, and will not do well in a shelter or rescue environment.

When we say we are full, we literally do not have a single space left. Our staff and fosters are maxed out.

Please help us help him. We will provide dog food and order his arthritis supplements. If he needs vaccines we will assist with that as well.

If you can help, please send us a direct message ASAP so we can coordinate.

Unfortunately, the tracking dog found evidence that makes us believe that Tori is deceased. Our deepest condolences to her family who worked tirelessly to find her.
We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Sean & Erica from Redcon One and Mike from Heatseekers for flying their drones to help search for Tori! 🚁 Your time, dedication, and efforts are truly appreciated.
A big thank you to Kelly from Lost Pet Search Dogs for bringing out her amazing dogs to help search for Tori. 🐾
And lastly, a heartfelt thank you to CTDGRV’s Jess for settings up cameras and Melanie for providing moral support, guidance, and encouragement throughout these difficult days. Your support means so much during such a stressful time.

Missing in Woodbridge. This female long-haired mini- dachshund went missing from Grandview Rd. She needs daily medication and has mobility issues with her back legs. She was dragging a brown leash. She is on the thin side due to recent surgery. She is anxious so please do NOT call out or chase. If you see her, please call the # on the flyer asap with details on when and where you saw her and what direction she was headed. Let's get this girl out of the rain and back home where she belongs!
