Meet Leeann, one of our amazing veterinary technicians!

Ever since she was a little girl, Leeann knew she wanted to work with animals because of her enormous love for them. Today, she's living that dream as a veterinary technician, helping care for and save animals every day. She treats every pet that comes through our doors with the same love and compassion she gives her own.

When she's not at the clinic, you'll likely find her out fishing or spending time with her family. She and her husband have been together for 12 years, and together they're raising their 11-year-old son, who shares her love for animals.

We're so grateful to have Leeann on our team. Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and the exceptional care you provide to every pet and their family! ❤️🐾

One of the most valuable things you can teach your dog is to happily load into the car on command.

Too often, the only time dogs get in the car is for a trip to the veterinarian. Over time, they learn to associate the car with stress—and suddenly "Load Up!" becomes a game of chase.

Instead, make car rides part of everyday life!

The biggest lie ever told?
"This cat is free." 😹

We've all done it.

🐈 Found a "free" kitten.
❤️ Fell completely in love.
💸 Then somehow spent thousands of dollars keeping that "free" cat happy and healthy.

Vaccines. Spays/neuters. Flea prevention. Fancy food. Cat trees. Scratching posts. Emergency 2 a.m. vet visits because they ate something they definitely shouldn't have.

That "free" cat quickly becomes priceless.

And honestly? We'd do it all over again.

Today, our hearts are heavy.

The veterinary community is mourning the tragic loss of Dr. Cierra Cadena, a 2026 graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine, who died by su***de.

Dr. Cadena had only just begun the career she had worked so tirelessly to achieve. She had just begun an equine internship in Ocala, Florida, pursuing her dream of becoming an equine specialist. Her passion for veterinary medicine and devotion to equine health touched everyone who knew her.

Her loss is a heartbreaking reminder that even those who dedicate their lives to caring for others can be silently carrying overwhelming burdens.

At Kilgore Small Animal Hospital, we know that behind every white coat is a human being. Veterinary professionals carry the weight of difficult cases, heartbreaking losses, emotional conversations, long hours, and the constant desire to do everything possible for our patients. While caring for animals is an incredible privilege, it can also come with an emotional toll that is often unseen.

Today, we ask our community to remember that kindness matters. Patience matters. Compassion matters—not only for our patients and their families, but for the people caring for them.

To our fellow veterinary professionals: please check on one another. Reach out. Listen without judgment. No one should have to struggle alone.

We honor Dr. Cierra Cadena's life, her dedication to veterinary medicine, and the compassion she gave so freely. May her memory inspire us to care for one another as deeply as we care for the animals entrusted to us.

Unfortunately for him... the surgery was still a success. 😹

Obviously, this feral friend did NOT get gabapentin before his appointment... and it showed. 😅

If your cat gets stressed at the vet, ask us about pre-visit gabapentin. It can help turn "Mission Impossible" into a routine appointment and make the visit much less stressful for your cat (and your veterinary team!).

Disclaimer: This was Dr. Wilcox's own semi-feral cat—not a client's cat. We have permission to laugh... mostly because he eventually forgave us. 😹

Twenty-five years later, September 11th still reminds us how precious life is and how quickly everything can change.

Today, we remember the thousands of innocent lives that were lost, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the incredible courage of the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members, and ordinary people who ran toward danger to help others.

As a veterinary team, we know the importance of compassion, service, and caring for others during life's hardest moments. Those same values were on display in the most extraordinary way on September 11, 2001.

Today, we pause to honor the heroes, remember those we lost, and hold their loved ones in our hearts. May we never take for granted the time we have with those we love, and may we continue to choose kindness, courage, and unity every day.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸❤️
