Benny is at the vet for his last round of heartworm treatment. He’ll get an injection today, stay overnight, and get another injection intomorrow. This part is really hard on his body, but necessary to finally kill the adult heartworms and complete his treatment.
The staff was amazed at how much healthier he looks and how much weight he’s gained. (Cough.) I am VERY interested to see the difference between today’s weight and his first appointment 😬😂
And this also means it’s officially time to start looking for Benny’s forever family.
We’ve gotten to know this giant floof pretty well over the last few months, so here are a few things his future family should know:
• Benny really, really loves food. He should be fed separately from other dogs, and anything edible needs to be stored well out of reach. The good news: he isn’t destructive with random household items. His criminal activity is strictly food-related.
• Despite being a Great Pyrenees, he has no interest in living in a field. He does enjoy outside time, but he is very much an inside dog.
• He has been around dogs, cats, goats, sheep, donkeys and ducks and has been completely unbothered by all of them.
• He does well with kids and isn’t stressed by meeting new people.
• He rarely barks, but when he decides something requires your attention, he has a VERY impressive deep bark.
• When he was first rescued, he climbed a 4-foot fence. Since settling in and, ahem, gaining a little weight, he hasn’t made any attempts to escape 😂
• His preferred method of making friends is shaking hands. Benny will happily offer you his paw and would appreciate the same level of politeness in return.
• His absolute favorite activity is napping on a cool floor, preferably somewhere close to one of his people.
Basically, Benny wants a comfortable house, good snacks, some outdoor time, people to keep company and a floor cool enough for serious napping.
Once he’s through these last heartworm treatments, this very good boy is ready for the next part of his life 🐾❤️
