The official start to summer is upon us!! Here are some tips on keeping your pup safe, healthy and looking their best-

•Swimming? Rinse & dry ears to
prevent infections

•Not all dogs can swim (looking at you, bulldogs & short-nosed breeds!) - use life jackets when needed

• Ticks are BAD this year - check daily
(ears, armpits, toes!)

• Camping/woods time? Use vet-recommended prevention + natural deterrents like diluted peppermint oil sprays

• Hot pavement burns paws - test with
your hand first

• Fireworks = stress - keep pets secure
& indoors

• Heatstroke happens FAST - never
leave pets in cars

The Easter bunny has come and gone but the dangers haven’t!

From all of us at Handsome Hounds Grooming, we hope your holiday was full of happy tails and sweet memories.

Now that the baskets are empty, here’s your friendly groomer reminder:

Watch out for leftover Easter hazards!

Chocolate & candy (especially sugar-free with xylitol) can be toxic to dogs

Lilies and other spring plants are very dangerous—especially for curious pets

Plastic grass, wrappers, and small toys = tempting but risky tummy troubles

Even the most handsome hounds can’t resist a sneaky snack

If your pup gets into something they shouldn’t, don’t wait—call your vet right away.

Stay safe, keep those tails wagging, and give your hound an extra snuggle from us!

Spring has sprung!!😃. Unfortunately it brought fleas ticks and skunks with it too . But don’t panic we’ve got you covered.

Here’s your survival guide if your dog  unsuccessfully attempted to make friends with a skunk:

Don’t bring your hound inside (unless you hate your furniture)

Don’t hose them off or apply an at home treatment (you’ll just marinate the smell)

Don’t let them roll around like it’s a spa day

DO call Handsome Hounds ASAP😁

The faster you get to us, the more stink we can destroy

Warning: your dog may still smell a little funky when wet later… but we’ll make a HUGE difference!

Warmer weather equals unwanted hitchhikers on your pups (also know as fleas and ticks).

Here’s what to know:

Check your dog after being outside (especially legs, belly & ears)

Keep up with flea & tick prevention (ask your vet!)Don’t wait — infestations happen FAST

If we find fleas during grooming:

Your dog will get a flea bath treatment. We’ll work to remove as many as possible safely but you’ll need to treat your home + other pets too.

Groomer truth:Fleas don’t just live on your dog… so quick action is EVERYTHING!

Mud season is here!

With the snow melting, we’re seeing lots of muddy paws, winter undercoat, and surprise matting hiding under those fluffy coats. Spring is one of our busiest times of the year at Handsome Hounds!

If your pup needs a fresh start after winter, now is the time to book. Our schedule is already filling up fast and appointments are booking out.

Happy New Year from Handsome Hounds!

Thank you for another great year of trimmed nails, clean paws and sloppy kisses. Thank you for shaing you dog with us and we look forward to pampering your pups as if they were our very own in the year ahead.

 As we reflect on 2025 we can’t help but be reminded of the far to many heartbreaking goodbyes we have had to say. One of those being the recent loss of our very own Bruce Handsome. 

Even though he was the face of and inspiration behind Handsome Hounds he was rarely at the shop. Let’s just say due to his endless dedication to barking and lack of manners he was reassigned from shop dog to more of a behind the scenes/work from home model type of role.

The only thing bigger than Bruce Handsome’s bark was his heart (definitely not his brain)🤣 and he will always be one of the best parts of our story. ❤️

Here’s to honoring not just Bruce, but all of the dogs we miss AND celebrating the new ones that remind us why we love dogs and what we do so much!

We’d love to honor them all- new or not we invite you to share a picture, name of and/or memory of a dog you’ve loved lost or welcomed. ❤️
