Poor Sylas is sensitive to the barometric pressure drops. Just like many people, dogs can experience discomfort when fluids in joints can become inflamed, and surrounding tendons/muscles expand, causing pain in those with arthritis or past injuries and imbalances. After the recent round of storms his neck was so tight and I could tell his sinuses felt swollen by the way his breathing sounded and his eyes were puffy. After his massage his eyes were clear, breathing less snorty and his shoulders no longer stuck to his ears from anxiety. Our regular sessions together have created a relationship where he now trusts me to help him when he feels achy instead of guarding his pain which helps us see some pretty cool immediate results when things get wonky.

I'm excited to introduce Rex! A super relaxed and an agreeable beagle whose proactive parents know that massage is a great natural way to help keep him active and comfortable as he ages. You might think that because he is so tolerant of being massaged that I would be doing some pretty deep tissue work by our second session, but that isn't my approach at all. I am keenly aware that a dog this agreeable may not give off the same signals of discomfort. I do not want to cause an increase of inflammation so I tend to "creep in" with slow, consistent pressure that allows the tissue to gradually lengthen and soften (known as "creep"), creating a "melt" sensation rather than a painful one. He volunteered by leaning and stretching into an assisted, gentle passive range of motion of both shoulders. He definitely seemed to like the fact that he could be an active participant and guide where my hands went next.
